DEJA THORIS, INDEED

The Viking Project, we now know, was an utter cover-up.  The
government squelched the truth: Mars is far stranger than
any fiction.

The canals are real, and pinstriped gondoliers ply the water-
ways crooning to emerald-skinned damsels.  The Martian King,
an overfed gnome, chants ensorcellments that lull the fangbats
to sleep, and coincidentally illuminate the sky with streaks
of brilliant orange.  In the highlands, dusky warrior-maids
defend handsome boys from the clutches of sentient cacti.

Our leaders will not shield us from any frightening or 
dangerous truths.  These represent no threat.

Their greatest fear is that our dreams will come true.
