Status: O LEONARDO ******** The Duke's eyes shone as he admired the sketches. "Magnificent!" he proclaimed to Leonardo, who smiled thinly. "Imagine," beamed the Duke, "a man uses this 'glider' to drop rocks on his enemies! The Duke of Genoa will be *livid*. Bravo, Leonardo!" "Imagine," breathed Leonardo sadly once the Duke was gone, and retreated to his workroom. A loose flagstone hid his most secret sketchbook. Leonardo reviewed the illustrations: here, submersibles for exploring the sea bottom; there, a source of energy based on smashing tiny particles together. Sparks flew from the furnace as the sketchbook ignited. "Maybe in a century," mused Leonardo. -- This post is COPYRIGHT 1995, Andrew Solberg. All rights reserved.
