SUMMER SCENE

"Betcha I can."

"Can't neither."

"Can too."

Two boys on a pier.  Baseball caps and summer tans.  Jeans rolled
up to the knees.  Feet dangling into the bayou.

"Liar."

"I ain't no liar!"

"Prove it."

Two boys with nothing to do.  A dangerous combination.

"I'll prove it, you watch!"

A boy standing on a pier, face crushed down in concentration.  On
the water, a turtle surfaces.  Its eyes bulge crazily as it rises
into the air and explodes, a momentary flash of green and red.

The sitting boy's mouth is an 'O' of amazement.  Now, between 
friends there is fear.
