          when
         I win the
         lottery
        I will be
         a cactus
        a thorny up
        yours sign
        against the
       sun my roots
        wheedling
       the faintest
       shade of water
       from baked and
       miser earth
       one day the
       rains will fall for
       seconds the screes will
        start in agonized memory
as they roar and jerk with
         dying streams I will show
no sign by day holding the
          wind and many hungry mouths
          around me in Mexican
           standoff but at
           night frantically
           sculpting a huge
           waxy flower from
           my tortured ecstatic
            flesh luring a pale moth
                                         importunate
                                          moony with
                                          mortality
                                         to shoulder
                                        his duped way
                                       down my
narrow
       and
            polleny
                    tunnel
                           lighting the grenade

                                             of
                                           my heavy
                                          fruit that hurls
                                         itself a few impossible
                                         yards away waiting with
                                         infinite patient avarice
                                         to claimjump its loving
                                          way through the bitter
                                              and unforgiving
                                                     soil
