The motion picture's opening scenes, according to plot descriptions in those publications, portrayed Lord Nelson (Sydney Booth) at the Board of Admiralty in London in the weeks prior to the conflict. There he reveals his "wonderful plan of attack" against the French fleet, which was supported by warships of its Spanish ally."'The Battle of Trafalgar' (Sept. 22)", The Moving Picture World (New York, N.Y.), September 16, 1911, p. 822. Internet Archive. Retrieved June 6, 2020. After discussing the daring plan, Nelson and his fellow officers raise their drinking glasses and toast King George III and to Britain's success in defeating the naval forces of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. The photoplay then shifted to scenes at sea aboard , Nelson's flagship. It is the day before the battle and officers are writing letters, perhaps their final messages, to their families and sweethearts. Lieutenant Prescott (Herbert Prior) is shown writing his fiancée (Laura Sawyer), who appears as a vision with "beautiful scenic and photographic effect". Advancing to the next day, the film depicted Nelson making a final entry in his personal diary and later on Victory bidding farewell to Captain Hardy (James Gordon) and other officers once the long line of enemy vessels is sighted on the horizon. Next, "splendidly portrayed" in the film, signal flags are hoisted aloft to relay the admiral's own simple but inspiring message to his crews across the British fleet: "England expects that every man will do his duty". Scenes then transitioned to the flagship's decks being cleared for action, followed by footage showing the battle itself with "the firing of the guns", "ships caught on fire", and close-up views of the battered Victory. While the battle is raging, Nelson and Hardy are openly and calmly walking on the quarter deck giving commands. Suddenly, Nelson drops to his knees, struck down by a musket ball shot by a sniper aboard the adjacent French warship 'Redoubtable'. Mortally wounded, Lord Nelson is quickly carried below decks to the ship's cockpit. There in the film's final scenes, described as replete with "grandeur" and "pathos", the heroic admiral dies, but not until Hardy brings him news of the British fleet's overwhelming defeat of Napoleon's Franco-Spanish fleet. One day, he encounters a xiucai named Lang (), whose erudite manner impresses Jia. The two men strike up a friendship, and Lang advises Jia to lower his literary standards in order to pass the examination; Jia refuses to do so and continues to languish. Three years later, Lang returns and poses to Jia a few topics to write essays on. However, he roundly criticises all of Jia's essays, prompting Jia to compose new ones using clichés and awkward phrases from his old writings. To his surprise, Lang tells him to memorise them and inscribes a fu on his back. During the actual examination, Jia regurgitates the substandard writing and becomes the top scorer. Disillusioned by the experience, Jia professes to become an ascetic, whereupon Lang takes him to his shifu, an elderly cave dwelling sage. Jia entreaties the master to accept him as his disciple, and is instructed to cultivate himself in the cave. Following a brief encounter with a wild tiger, Jia is visited by an apparition of his wife, with whom he proceeds to make love. She disappears once the master returns; already aware of what has transpired, the master forces Lang to escort Jia out of the cave. Jia returns home but finds his neighbourhood virtually unrecognisable—reminiscent of the legend of Liu Chen and Ruan Zhao. Unaware of his identity, a village elder informs Jia that Jia Fengzhi had disappeared after becoming a juren, leaving behind his wife and their adolescent son; about a hundred years ago, when their son became a teenager, Jia's wife fell into a deep sleep and—following the death of their son—had been taken care of by her two impoverished grandchildren. A month ago, however, she had suddenly awoken from her century-long slumber. Upon hearing this, Jia reveals his identity. While his quinquagenarian grandchild, Jia Xiang () is initially sceptical of the claim, his grandmother herself positively identifies her husband. Jia's eldest granddaughter-in-law, Wu (), whose husband died a while ago, is filial to both Jia and his wife; in contrast, Jia Xiang and his family regard them with contempt. Angered by their offhandedness, Jia relocates to the countryside with his wife and settles down as a teacher. Some time later, Jia earns his jinshi degree, a few years after which he becomes appointed as a bureaucrat in Zhejiang. However, because he is impervious to bribery, many of his fellow court officials wish to sabotage him, and the Emperor repeatedly denies Jia's requests to return home. Meanwhile, Jia Xiang and his six sons misuse Jia Fengzhi's name to extort villagers of their land and money. One of Jia Xiang's sons kidnaps the bride of a Mou Yi () and Jia Fengzhi is implicated. Jia Fengzhi and Jia Xiang and his sons are captured and incarcerated; after a year, while still imprisoned, they all die of illness save Jia Fengzhi. Jia is released and sent to Luoyang; Jia's wife reunites with him after entrusting her xiucai great-grandson Jia Gao ()—one of her granddaughter-in-law Wu's two children—with the care of her seventeen-year-old son (i.e. Jia Gao's granduncle) whom she had conceived after relocating to the countryside with Jia Fengzhi. Now with his wife in Luoyang, Jia laments the misfortune in his life. One day, while Jia is walking by the beach with his wife and their servants, a boatman beckons him to board his boat. Jia complies and the boat takes off, separating husband and wife. In exasperation, Jia's wife jumps into the ocean but is pulled up to the boat by the boatman using a thread of white satin. Jia recognises the boatman as Lang, and they disappear into the horizon. In his postscript, Pu remarks: "The fact that Jia felt ashamed and left the world suggests that that he had in him the making of an immortal. Yet he returned to the human world and degraded himself for the need of sustenance. One of the youngsters brought with him a large serving of pie, which another boy named Tommy steals and runs away from the group. Once he outruns the other boys, Tommy shares the pie with his friend who accompanied him. The pair are tired from running and now do not feel well after devouring the stolen treat, so they lie down next to a big tree and fall asleep. Tommy begins to dream. In a bizarre nightmare he sees himself stealing again, but this time in "Birdland". He is a thief who climbs a tree and robs a bird's nest of its eggs. After taking the eggs, Tommy climbs down and then argues in his dream with his friend. The boys disagree about how to share the eggs, so they leave one another. Later in his dream, as he walks alone across a cornfield, Tommy is confronted by a huge sparrow that is even larger in size than the boy. The bird accuses him for egg theft and calls a equally large police bird, who arrests Tommy and "jails" him in a large bird cage. A trial before Judge Eagle is then convened to try the boy for his crime. Other human- sized birds assemble in the forest to act as jurors and witnesses in the outdoor court. After the jury quickly finds Tommy guilty, the judge sentences him to be beheaded. A flock of birds now forms a "death march" to escort the condemned boy to the chopping block, where the Crow, Birdland's executioner, is holding a large axe. There, Tommy is forced to place his head on the block, but just before the Crow strikes the fatal blow, Tommy awakens. He finds himself back in the reality of Boyland. His friend is awake too, and says he is hungry again after eating the pie. He suggests that they should find a bird's nest and take some eggs. Tommy refuses. The camp is staffed mainly by African subjects overseen by a few British soldiers and their commander, the stiff-lipped Major David Farrell (Ben Cross), who lost both his wife and child to the war. One of the Major's preoccupations has been attempting to ascend one of Kenya's forbidding southern approaches, but he has been frustrated, his failure a joke amongst the mostly Italian prisoners, including his nemesis Franco Distassi (Vincent Spano), a world-class climber who has attempted escape five times. Succeeding on his sixth breakout attempt, Franco steals a jeep and makes his way through the Kenyan countryside to a small village, crashing the jeep to avoid hitting another truck stuck in the road. After an initial misunderstanding with the occupants an industrialist and his daughter Patricia (Rachel Ward), Franco fixes their truck and stays for lunch. He resembles Patricia's late husband, and his intelligence and charm leave an impression on her. When the British catch up with him, Franco goes quietly. Standing before the Major, he taunts the commander for failing to conquer the mountain, further vexing him. Franco is put into solitary confinement. The demoralized commanding officer of the Italians, Enzo (Tony Lo Bianco), devises a scheme to regain his and the others' honor: a select band will escape to climb Mount Kenya with the aim of reaching the 16,300 ft Point Lenana and planting the Italian flag there before returning to the camp, a feat that will also humiliate their captors. Franco agrees with the proviso that he makes his own descent from the other side into Italian-occupied Somalia. Gear is produced by artisan prisoners, including the German Kist (Rico Vanden Hurck), who trades his compass for a place on the three-man climbing team. Point Lenana, Mount Kenya Franco is away from the camp after he agrees to repair the industrialist's antiquated sawmill, where he and Patricia share a romantic interlude in the hayloft. When the Major, who had pressed his own unsuccessful suit with her, finds out, his ensuing rage pushes the POWs to put their plan in motion immediately, and Franco, Enzo, and Kist make good their escape. Once over the wire, however, Kist betrays the Italians and flees but is quickly captured, revealing their plan to the Major, who prepares to give chase up the mountainside. Mountain sickness leaves Enzo unable to continue, so Franco proceeds alone for days, sometimes catching a glimpse of the Major across the canyons. At night they engage in shouted banter with one another, inflaming the Major's envy of Franco's mountaineering skill and jealousy over Patricia. At the summit, the Major has Franco in his sights and implores him to halt. Franco buries the flag and surrenders, returning to the camp a hero. ===== Heinzelmännchen are helping a baker. ===== According to reviews in 1911 trade publications, this brief film featured comedic situations that confronted a "stage-struck young lady" who desired to become a professional entertainer."Lost in a Hotel (Sept. 19)", The Moving Picture World, September 16, 1911, p. 824. When he attempts to follow his family during their nightly patrol using a magical Moonstone, he inadvertently exposes the existence of werewolves to ice-cream truck owner Foxwell Cripp, and when Freddy's father, Flashheart Lupin, attempts to protect Freddy, Freddy ends up losing the Moonstone to Cripp and Flashheart is apparently killed when he falls off a cliff. With Flasheart dead, Freddy's uncle Hotspur becomes the new head of the werewolf clan, starting various new policies that include an increased dog-catching presence in the town, as werewolves have had a long history of disdain for dogs. Six years later, the time comes for Freddy to experience his first wolf transformation, but despite the encouragement of long-term housekeeper Mrs Mutton, he is humiliated when he turns into a dog (poodle, to be exact) instead. Faced with the disdain of his pack, Freddy is challenged to prove his wolf status by moonrise the next day or risk being banished. However, his efforts are curtailed from the beginning when Hotspur's children put a silver collar on him, preventing him turning back into human form, although he manages to escape the mansion. Hitching a lift into town on a passing truck, Freddy decides to try and retrieve the Moonstone from Cripp, who now runs a werewolf exhibition that has been covered by anti-werewolf defenses preventing the pack from retrieving it themselves. While searching in town, Freddy befriends Batty, a stray dog also known as 'Houndini' for her ability to consistently escape the dog-catchers, offering to give her access to his mansion's supply of meat if she helps him retrieve the ring from Cripp. After Batty gives him some tips on how to be more dog, she leads him to Cripp's exhibition. Freddy is briefly caught and examined by Cripp, but Batty is able to help him escape. Learning about Batty's past, when she was put out of a petshop after nobody bought her, Freddy plans to help her, but they are caught by the dogcatchers and sent to the Coldfax dog pound before he can do anything. Meanwhile, Cripp recognises the Lupin family crest from Freddy's silver collar, and is able to acquire a hair sample from Hotspur to confirm his suspicions. Hotspur visits the dog pound and retrieves the Moonstone, but decides to leave Freddy there so that he can become the official pack leader. In a cell with the temperamental Twitchy, the zen-style Hamish, and Bruno, who can only say "ball", Freddy accidentally admits his werewolf heritage, but after an escape attempt goes wrong, he takes the blame to save the dogs and is sent to a pit with 'the Beast', an unknown monster that supposedly eats dogs. As Hotspur prepares to implement his plan along with the pound's Commander to turn all the captured stray dogs into wigs, Freddy learns that the 'Beast' is actually his father; Flasheart was captured by the dog-catchers after he was injured by the fall, with Hotspur leaving him in Coldfax with a silver bracelet to keep him trapped in his wolf state. Batty and the other dogs are able to escape into the vents and help Freddy free his father. Mrs Mutton manages to track Freddy to the pound, she and Twitchy remaining to keep the Commander occupied and destroy the wig-making machine respectively. Freddy leads Flasheart and the dogs home to confront Hotspur, which also allows Freddy to return to human form after they are able to remove his silver collar. Their attempt to confront Hotspur is intercepted by Cripp, who attacks the other wolves with a mass of silver concentrate, but Freddy is able to stop Cripp's attack when he reveals that (contrary to Cripp's expectations) the wolves didn't kill him as a child. Having evaded Cripp's initial attack, Hotspur tries to attack while the other wolves are weakened by the silver, but the dogs are able to get the wolves to safety while Freddy lures his uncle to the mansion roof. Transforming back into a poodle in the moonlight and accepting his form, Freddy lets out a loud roar to affirm his status as an alpha wolf, sending Hotspur falling back into the mansion and affirming his failure as a leader. Sometime later, Freddy's reflections reveal that not only have werewolves and dogs gotten on better terms, but the pack has also opened the mansion up to all dogs, with Hotspur and his children reduced to dog- walkers and picking up after the mutts, while Cripp is an accepted part of life at the mansion, Batty being Freddy's particular pet/friend. Meanwhile, the commander has been arrested and Coldfax is presumably shut down. Flasheart has returned to his old role as pack leader, but assures Freddy that he is proud of him and believes he will be a good leader when the time comes. ===== Protagonist Tamar Rabinyan, a young Jewish woman born in Iran but raised in Israel, is a Mossad agent and computer hacker, sent on a mission to the Iranian capital, assigned to disabling an Iranian nuclear reactor. Dick Tassell is returning as a schoolmaster at Hilary Hall, a boys' school, after five years in the Royal Air Force. But by a bureaucratic error, the school to be billeted at Hilary Hall is St Swithins – a girls' school.Dighton, pp. 1–11 After early skirmishing and mutual disdain the Headmaster of Hilary Hall, Godfrey Pond, and the Principal of St Swithins, Miss Whitchurch, try to reach an accommodation to cope with the ensuing problems. Miss Whitchurch establishes an early advantage by getting the men to stop smoking on the premises and to have the dormitories reserved for the girls, with the boys reduced to sleeping in the carpentry room. She is obliged to cooperate with Pond when parents turn up, the girls' expecting netball, the boys', boxing and cricket. It is unthinkable that they should learn that their children are mingling with the opposite sex.Dighton, pp. 11–50 By frantic manoeuvring the staff keep the two lots of parents from meeting each other and ensure, by the narrowest of margins and high-speed moves of pupils from one classroom to another, that each set sees what they are expecting to see in the classroom and on the sports field. Matters are further complicated by the relations between the male and female teachers. Tassell and Joyce Harper, one of Miss Whitchurch's younger staff, become increasingly close (ending up together by the end of the play) while Miss Gossage, Miss Whitchurch's hearty deputy, becomes keen on Rupert Billings, Pond's blasé mathematics master, who is aghast at her interest in him.Dighton, pp. 37–39 At the end of Act 2 the deception finally falls apart: both sets of parents, the boys and girls, and the staff of both schools all run into each other. Miss Whitchurch faints into Miss Gossage's arms.Dighton, pp. 68–71 In the last act the two head teachers make strenuous attempts to get the bureaucratic blunder resolved, while the parents become increasingly irate. At the end of the play a fleet of coaches arrives bearing the staff and pupils of another displaced school – this one co-educational. As the chaos mounts, Miss Whitchurch blows a piercing blast on a whistle, the action freezes and the play ends.Dighton, pp. 72–97 ===== The serial storyline is of Sialkot's ambitious girl named Amena. she is married to Liaqut and had a son named Ruhan.
