Joseph and his half brother Obet (McCoy de Leon) grow up fatherless, each from a different father. Victor returns to Joseph's life and things are starting to get better for their family, but Victor dies suddenly in Joseph's home. The two families collide, shocking their two sons and devastating Olivia Buenavidez (Eula Valdez), Victor's widow. Olivia turns her anger on Raquel (Mylene Dizon), Joseph's mother, and blames her for her husband's untimely death. The autopsy reveals poison in Victor's system, his death turns into a homicide investigation. Olivia quickly points the blame on the Reyes family. Victor's Will further complicates matters when Joseph and Raquel are named co-heirs with the first family, with Joseph receiving equal shares as his two other brothers, Enzo and Calvin. The will stipulates Joseph must complete his education in the same private school as his brothers, and upon graduating university, share in the management of the company with Enzo. Aside from a lump sum bequest, Raquel is also given a seat in the board. The investigation intensifies as suspicions shift from Joseph and Raquel to Calvin and Olivia. While the siblings try to deal with the new family dynamics, Olivia continues to cast aspersions on the Reyes family, specifically Raquel and Joseph. Joseph pursues his own investigation and discovers leads which he provides the police, further angering Olivia. As clashes between both families escalate in the school campus and the boardroom, the investigation leads to Dado Castillo (Jeric Raval), the Buenavidez family driver. Dado and Olivia grew up together despite the fact that Dado's father was their servant. As children, Olivia leaned on Dado as her protector against her father's harsh disciplinary upbringing. He falls in love with her but she marries Victor. In one moment of weakness, when Victor and Olivia's marriage is under a lot of strain, Olivia and Dado spend the night together and Calvin is conceived. Victor learns the truth when Dado secretly leaks the DNA result on his desk bureau for him to find, information that sparked his and Olivia's separation. The discovery of their mother's affair and Calvin's paternity devastate the boys, while the lies and coverups intensifies. The coverup attempts lead to Chief investigator SPO1 Colminares’ murder by Dado, creating an enormous impact on Calvin's mental state and he further regresses into Psychosis. As Joseph's investigation leads him closer to the truth, Olivia pressures Dado to kill Joseph. When Dado is captured, he confesses to the assault and attempted murder of the Reyeses, the murder of SP01 Colmenares (Michael Rivero) and admits to poisoning Victor. The police are skeptical because they have concrete evidence that Dado had an accomplice who Colmenares struggled with before he died. Their suspicions come from hair samples obtained from Colmenares’ hands when he died. DNA tests conclude the hair strands are not Dado's, but its DNA has an 89.7% chance that the hair belongs to his relative. Hazel (Loisa Andalio) is eliminated because she is adopted. While all these are happening, Olivia attempts to flee to America with her sons to start a new life. A departure hold is placed against her and they are detained just before they board. She is arrested for trying to abscond with company funds and Estafa charges are filed against her by BDG (“Buenavidez de Guzman Group”). The departure hold affects Calvin the hardest as his mental state deteriorates even further and his schizophrenic personalities begin to emerge. He hears voices in his head, warnings that the truth will destroy him. Enzo's concern for Calvin increases and promises to be there for his brother but he is conflicted when he discovers more lies from his mother, her embezzlement of BDG funds. He wants to reach out to Hazel but is torn between covering up his family's secrets, or doing the right thing and get help for his brother. Calvin's psychiatrist strongly recommends confinement in a psych facilities for his psychotic episodes. At Olivia's Estafa trial, the court hears testimony from Randy Villamanca, BDG's former head of finance, attesting that he has been diverting company funds to Olivia's offshore accounts under her specific instructions. But his testimony is questioned when the funds are missing from her secret offshore account. Just when it looks like Olivia's careful lies unravel, the unthinkable happens when the court grants her a not guilty verdict for lack of evidence. Olivia's lawyers point out there is no evidence that proves Olivia received the funds. While Olivia dodges a bullet, Anthony (John Estrada) and Ernesto (Art Acuña) appeal the verdict. Strangely, Anthony instructs Villamanca to hide. Despite Olivia's courtroom triumphs, Calvin's mental health quickly deteriorates, his paranoia pushes him to break into Anthony's home. Anthony and Joseph catch him and after a violent altercation with Joseph, turn him over to authorities. This time, police focus on Calvin's alibi, Justine (Alexa Ilacad), threatening her with possible charges of obstruction of justice. Not wanting to drag her into all this, Calvin admits the truth about the evening Colmenares was murdered. He is jailed overnight as an accomplice for murder and obstruction of justice but released on bail the next day. Calvin breaks down at his pre-hearing, prompting a motion for a court appointed psychiatrist to determine if Calvin is competent to stand trial. Olivia finally admits to Enzo that Calvin poisoned his father to stop him from leaving their family. The next day, Calvin confesses the same truth to the court appointed psychiatrist. The explosive information sends the entire extended family reeling. Olivia looks to Dado and Arthur to fix her problems - two persons personally invested in Olivia's triumph. Dado tells Olivia that he would testify that he stopped Calvin from serving the poison when he purposely spilled the contents of the glass. Meanwhile, Arthur, who has his own score to settle with Anthony, accepts Olivia's payment to find the stolen company funds from Anthony and bring down his rival. Later, Anthony becomes the new person of interest. Olivia tracks Villamanca hiding in a safe house arranged by Anthony Buenavidez, but escapes. Police investigators review CCTV footage and learn that Anthony and Victor had an argument in their office the evening of his death, after the birthday dinner and before Victor headed for the Reyes. Unfortunately, Anthony and Villamanca are missing. Joseph and Raquel struggle to comprehend the latest developments regarding Anthony and find it hard to believe that he killed Victor. But soon after Anthony is officially named a suspect in his brother's murder, the police investigation goes into a tailspin when Anthony is found dead. Solving Victor's death is far from over as twist after twist occur and persons or interest are murdered. A new lead investigator is brought in to bring a third eye into the investigation. Meanwhile, Dado attempts to take matters in his own hands and kidnaps Calvin, a situation that forces Olivia to join him in a remote rural island in the province outside Manila where they live as a family. Their disappearance alarms Matilda (Olivia's mother) who subsequently has a stroke. There are no sightings of the trio, but Calvin calls Justine from time to time and tells her he is happy and peaceful in his new surroundings. Olivia's unwillingness to seek help from the authorities raises suspicions with Enzo and Joseph. While authorities continue to search for them, BDG struggles financially as stockholders try to pull out. Nonetheless, Raquel convinces them to give her franchise concept a chance to work. In two months, the company is back on its feet. The franchise model takes off, saving BDG from bankruptcy, once again gaining the confidence from its stockholders. Ernesto successfully sells the idle agricultural land that had weighed heavily on the company's neck, selling it profitably under a rezoned commercial property, further adding financial value to the company. In just two months, BDG's financial hemorrhage caused by Olivia's siphoning stopped under Raquel's and Ernesto's able guardianship. BDG is back on its feet, emerging even richer than before. But just as the company recovers, another tragedy strikes while the company celebrates a thanksgiving dinner with their clients and employees. Back at the Island, Olivia and Calvin escape from Dado, immediately contacting Enzo. Entangled in her web of lies, she refuses to go to the police, a covert maneuver to impede exposure. Instead, they rush into the company thanksgiving party, where Dado, who had been following them, unleashes his fury at the crowd, shooting innocent guests. Raquel attempts to bring Calvin to safety, ending up at the rooftop of the building. Both Enzo and Joseph try to disarm Dado but he overcomes the two brothers. As Raquel and Olivia run to help their sons, Dado pushes Raquel over the edge of the building. Joseph tries to hold on to Raquel but her hand slips and she falls to her death. Dado escapes with Calvin. When the authorities pursue both Dado and Calvin at the ferry boat, a furious Arthur catches up and shoots him. Dado falls into the ocean, his body is never retrieved and Calvin wanders away. Always the chronic liar, Olivia uses her self-inflicted wounds to describe abuse under the hands of Dado, a story the authorities and Enzo don’t believe. Enzo suspects his mother knows the truth about his father's murder, and that Dado holds that secret over her head. Joseph has similar suspicions and reports it to the police: all of them at the rooftop heard Dado threaten to expose the truth about Olivia if she and Calvin didn’t go with him. Raquel's death places a tremendous strain on Joseph and Obet's psyche. Consumed with guilt over his failure to save her, Joseph's anger clouds his good heart. Obet is filled with rage at the Buenavidezes, towards his brother and is led further astray by his father, fueling their desire for revenge. Enzo recognizes his mother's lies as the root of it all, and asks her how any resolution could occur if she can’t face the truth. He wonders if protecting his family is the right thing to do. ===== Justice Scalia is entering a new term of the Supreme Court and reviewing applications for law clerks to serve in his office during the coming year. One of the applications he receives is from Cat, a recent woman graduate from law school who wishes to be his law clerk and who also has firmly held liberal beliefs. Scalia is intrigued and invites her for an interview. The interview leads to heated exchanges in which the potential law clerk makes strong assertions about her liberal beliefs and claims that these convictions do not mean she is unqualified to be a clerk for a conservative Justice of the Court. When Scalia protests, Cat asserts herself as a practicing Roman Catholic who has an equal voice in representing her legal opinions concerning cases coming before the Court. After some further verbal sparring, Scalia agrees to take her on as his law clerk and as someone capable of making reasoned arguments on positions which do not necessarily align completely with his own. Soon after she becomes his clerk, legal blogs begin reporting personal details of Scalia's new law clerk and details of her personal life. She feels compelled to present these to Scalia prior to them being made public in the press and causing possible embarrassment to Scalia in that way. She admits to being part of the LGBT movement and that she is involved in an LGBT relationship. Rather than becoming angry, Scalia indicates that he is better-informed than she may have thought and that he had received a preliminary report of this matter through his own review of some of the legal blogs. He accepts her statement and she continues as his legal clerk. While clerking for Scalia she has further confrontations with both Scalia and his other highly conservative law clerk. At one point, Scalia requires her to join him at a shooting range, and he teaches her to shoot a rifle. Unexpectedly, the two are able to debate issues of the Court further in a manner suggesting that Scalia is more open- minded than often-stated opinions of him as an arch-conservative. Their mutual animosity and differences of opinion begin to shift considerably when Scalia appears to suffer from heart palpitations, and she quickly comes to his side to assist him as best she can. Later, when her own father appears to become mortally ill and on his death bed, Scalia offers his own sympathy for her imminent loss. The play ends with the two of them reconciling to that fact that both their differences and their similarities appear to signify more than the direct review of the cases coming before the Court in the particular year when she is one of his law clerks. ===== The story is all about four friends Romario (Balu Varghese), Riyas (Ganapathi S. Poduval), Yudas (Vishak Nair ) and Athmaram (Dharmajan Bolgatty). The story develops into a new turn when Romario's childhood friend Riya (Honey Rose) comes to their college to study. Later it is revealed that it was Riya who fooled her father she is pregnant, for marrying Romario. At last it is revealed that it was Romario who brought her from Bangalore to Kerala in-order to marry her and become rich. Later they get married. ===== The story begins with two brothers Ashar, the elder, and Yasir, the younger. They are married to two sisters with Yasir being married to the elder, Ramsha, and Ashar being married to the younger, Samra. Samra is pregnant and the couple already has a daughter named Alishba. Ramsha and Yasir share a son, Waleed. Living with them is the head of the household known as 'Dadi' by everyone. Raffiq is the family's servant who takes care of everything and is treated like a member of the family. He is especially close to Alishba who won't eat from anyone else's hand. At the time of Samra's baby shower, Raffiq brings along his pregnant wife and son on the instructions of Dadi. When Dadi begins the traditions on Raffiq's wife, Samra comes in and throws a fit that it's her baby shower. She is disgusted that a mere servant took her place. Due to her fit, Ashar has an argument with her telling her that if she acts so high and mighty over the servants, someday she will crash to the ground. The next day, it is raining heavily and Samra faces contractions. She refuses to go to the hospital with anyone aside from Ashar. In his haste to get to her, Ashar crashes into Raffiq's pregnant wife and son, killing them. He leaves in panic and arrives at the hospital to find his unborn child has also died. The family is hit with tragedy. A few days later, unable to bear the guilt, Ashar tells Yasir of the crime he committed. Raffiq overhears and in an act of revenge, kidnaps Alishba and takes her to some unknown village. Due to the shock, Samra is paralyzed from the waist-down. FIFTEEN YEARS LATER . . . Raffiq has raised Alishba as his own daughter along with a woman (Hamda Kaki) he calls his "sister". Alishba is now known as Alina. Raffiq is severely ill and the doctors suggest for him to go to Karachi to which he eventually agrees. On the other side, the family is preparing for Waleed's return from the US and his engagement to Sana. The two are shown as workaholics. Sana is especially rude to all of Waleed's family members which eventually leads to Waleed distancing himself from her. To earn some money for her father's (Raffiq) operation, Alishba begins working at her old house without knowing that she is their long-lost daughter. Eventually, the truth comes out and Raffiq begs for forgiveness after which he passes away from throat cancer. Alishba is re- introduced into the family and Samra, who was previously depressed, learns to live again. Alishba takes a while to adjust to her new life. Sana's mother isn't happy with the marriage causing them to move it up from one year to twenty days. During this time, Waleed's childhood friend, Sheheryar, comes along. He's shown as the opposite of Waleed, being lively and funny. Alishba and him get along and eventually Sheheryar falls in love with her. Dadi figures it out and arranges for the two to get married on the same day as Sana and Waleed. Waleed is facing a difficult time with Sana who is rude and stubborn. In the twenty-day gap between his marriage, he realizes that he is also in love with Alishba, much to the joy of Samra who has held on to Ramsha's promise that their children would marry one day. Waleed confesses his love for Alishba in front of Sana, her mother, Alishba and her father. Sana is upset and leaves at that moment regardless of it being only a night before their marriage. Alishba is distraught that Waleed would do this to her when she is supposed to marry Sheheryar. She refuses to marry Waleed but Sheheryar, who is under the misunderstanding that the entire household wants Waleed and Alishba to marry, leaves that night. In the morning, Samra convinces Alishba to marry Waleed and they do so. Ramsha is very angry throughout since she still does not believe that Alishba is actually Samra's daughter. Initially, Alishba is not happy with Waleed since he broke her marriage causing people to doubt her honor. Ramsha adds fuel to the fire in attempt to break the two up. However, Samra continuously tells Alishba that Waleed loves her endlessly and that it would be foolish of her to not see that. Alishba finally decides to forget Sheheryar and move on with Waleed. The two fall in love, with Alishba confessing it in front of their family. At this point, Sana returns with the aid of Ramsha. She's gone insane for Waleed and will do anything to gain him, including framing Hamda Kaki for thievery. She attempts suicide when Waleed doesn't talk to her and in order to prevent her from doing so again, he agrees to talk to her at night only. When Alishba asks, he says he's talking to a 'Canadian client'. When Ashar and Yasir wonder who this client is, Alishba grows suspicious. Alishba discovers she's pregnant and the whole family is overjoyed. Waleed tells Sana to forget him since he now has his own family. Sana is about the leave when Ramsha stops her and tells her to wait for a few more days. She clearly has a trick up her sleeves. A man is constantly calling Waleed, asking for his wife named "Hina". Waleed denies knowing her and the man, Rehmat, claims that Alishba is actually Hina and that she only married Waleed for his wealth. The entire family grows suspicious of Alishba's true identity and a DNA test is demanded to which Alishba refuses. This causes Waleed to doubt his wife. Alishba calls Hamda Kaki to back her story that she truly is Alishba. During this time, she also goes to meet Rehmat to demand why he would play such a sick joke on her when she doesn't even know who he is. Waleed sees the two together and confronts Alishba, accusing her of being Hina and lying to him. Hamda Kaki comes along and confirms that Alishba is in fact, only Alishba and that this Hina story is a fraud. Alishba, seeing how the family has doubted her (everyone except Samra believes that she is Hina), leaves with Hamda Kaki. She wants a divorce from Waleed but when the time comes, she cannot go through with it. On the other end, Waleed has been pressurized to believe that Alishba has lied to him all this time. In attempt to get over her, he accepts to marry Sana, much to her happiness and his mother's satisfaction. During the wedding preparations, Waleed and Sana go to the mall where Sana sees Rehmat along with a woman and son. She contacts the woman and finds out that she is Rehmat's wife. On the day of Sana's nikkah with Waleed, Sana calls the woman and has her speak the truth in front of everyone. Ashar and Yasir also drag Rehmat inside who admits that he was paid by Ramsha to pretend that Alishba was Hina. The marriage breaks off for a second time and Waleed is angry at himself for not believing Alishba. When the entire family encourages him to go get her back, including Sana, Ramsha threatens that she'll kill herself if he does. Waleed walks away and she shoots herself, damaging her brain and paralyzing herself. At that time, Alishba goes into labor and Hamda Kaki is informed that they need more money for the operation. She calls Waleed who rushes to help his wife. Alishba gives birth to a son. Waleed begs for her forgiveness and she agrees. The family is reunited. A few days later, they plan on naming the baby. Alishba says Ramsha has a right to do so and Ramsha chooses the name 'Waqas'. ===== The film revolves around an animal trainer and his family ===== An ordinary day at a Parisian notary office comes to a tragic end. Six years earlier, while on the mob's payroll, Denton attacked district attorney Phil Coakley, earning him the enmity of the police and the nickname "slash cop". After finding his ex-wife has left the city with their children, he moves in with his elderly parents. Denton researches his ex-wife on the internet, eventually digging up a phone number. After briefly talking to one of his daughters, his ex-wife takes the phone and threatens to press charges if he ever contacts them again. Denton passes a bar on his way back home. Although a recovering alcoholic, he enters and orders a drink. His friend Scotty, the brother of Denton's slain partner, greets him and offers him any help he needs. A young woman asks Denton for a ride home. Denton is surprised when she reveals herself to be Coakley's daughter and intentionally bloodies herself. Cued by her cries for help, two men drag Denton from his car; Denton beats both men savagely. After Denton is questioned by the police, Coakley admits the evidence backs up his story and reluctantly asks if Denton wants to press charges. Denton declines, saying he wants to leave his history in the past, to the disgust of Coakley and Lieutenant Pleasant, who calls him a disgrace. Pleasant, revealed to also be corrupt, demands Denton kill mob boss Manny Vassey, who has found religion on his deathbed. Pleasant explains Vassey's guilty conscience may lead him to confess to Coakley. Pleasant promises to help Denton renegotiate the terms of the settlement with his ex-wife if he kills Vassey. At his house, Vassey denies the rumors. As Vassey falls asleep, Denton begins to suffocate him, only to be interrupted by Charlotte Boyd, Vassey's hospice nurse. Denton smoothly thanks her for her work and leaves the house, where he encounters Vassey's sadistic son, Junior. Junior threatens to kill Denton, enraged that Vassey would see him while avoiding his own son. Frustrated with his suspicious behavior, Denton's parents demand explanations. When they disbelieve his lies, Denton angrily accuses them of having no faith in his redemption. Denton encounters Boyd again at a diner, and the two soon begin dating. After Pleasant threatens him and his parents, Denton probes Boyd for a way to access Vassey. When this fails, Pleasant suggests he murder Coakley instead. Denton breaks into Coakley's house but can not bring himself to do it. Instead, he bribes Toni, a prostitute Coakley has been seeing, into secretly recording him. Denton sets up a camera in Coakley's hotel room and waits in a nearby room for Coakley to arrive. During Coakley's tryst, Toni's boyfriend, Rooster arrives. Driven by jealousy, Rooster kills Toni and is killed by Coakley in return. Denton witnesses the shooting and waits for Coakley to leave before running into the room to look for the camera. Realizing that Coakley found and took the camera, Denton returns home dejected. After another argument with his parents, in which his father asks him to leave, an unknown assailant fires several shots into Denton's parents' house, wounding his mother. Denton confesses to Boyd, with whom he has grown closer, that the situation has spiraled out of control. She assures him it will work out, and, unknown to Denton, murders Vassey. Junior catches Boyd in the act. Denton is kidnapped by Junior's thugs and Junior reveals he has tortured and presumably killed Boyd. Denton's protests that he was uninvolved with Vassey's death are interrupted by the arrival of Scotty. Denton and Scotty kill Junior and his thugs, but Scotty is shot. Denton attempts to save Scotty but stops when he learns that Scotty was the one who shot his mother. Coakley had revealed to Scotty that it was Denton who killed his brother under Junior's orders. Denton leaves Scotty to die and receives a call from Pleasant informing him that Coakley died in a car accident. Coakley had been distracted, watching the recording of his shooting of Rooster while driving. Denton ransacks his parents' house for dirty money they found and hid from him before kicking him out. After Denton finds the money and indicates his desire to deliver it to his children, Denton's father says he will not allow Denton anywhere near the children, fearing Denton's self-destructive impulses will harm them. When Denton incredulously asks what his father can do to stop him, Denton's father stabs him. In his dying moments, Denton wipes his father's fingerprints off the knife and adds his own, to make the wound appear self- inflicted. ===== The series revolves around Aastha, an atheist girl from Manali, who gets married into a very religious family in Kolkata and tries to save the family from Guru Maa's ploys. Aastha's and Shiv's love is meant to be. Radhika, Shiv's ex-girlfriend comes and destroys their love by creating misunderstandings between them. Shiv wants Aastha to stop his marriage with Radhika. But Aastha thinks that if Shiv loves her he will not marry Radhika. Shiv and Aastha love each other a lot but are unable to tell each other. Radhika and Gurumas plan fails when Astha exposes Radhika through the use of a recorder. During their engagement, Astha uses technology to show how Radhika conspired against the whole family to obtain her interest (money - rather I say). After Radhika is exposed, gurumaa says that she wants to do 'arti' before she leaves the household to which the members retaliate. But, on Asthas convincing, the family members agree. Gurumaa gives prashad which contains sleepy pills. In the parallel scene, Radhika comes in Asthas room and holds her up against the wall with a knife. Arguments continue between Lakshmi Gurumaa and others. Eventually, Shiv rescues Astha under the pretext of marrying Radhika. The show ends on a happy note that a person's character cannot be judged based on their religious views. An atheist person can be a good human and a religious person can be a bad human. ===== Starr Carter is a 16-year-old black girl who lives in the fictional, mostly poor black neighborhood of Garden Heights, but attends an affluent predominantly white private school, Williamson Prep. After a shooting breaks up a party Starr is attending, she is driven home by her childhood best friend and sometimes crush Khalil. They are stopped by a white police officer. The officer instructs Khalil, who is African American, to exit the car; while outside the car, Khalil leans into the driver-side window to check in on Starr. The officer then fires three shots into Khalil, killing him. Starr agrees to an interview with police about the shooting after being encouraged by her Uncle Carlos, who is also a detective. Carlos was a father figure to Starr when her father, Maverick, spent three years in prison for gang activity. Following his release, Maverick left the gang and became the owner of the Garden Heights grocery store where Starr and her half-brother Seven work. Maverick was only allowed to leave his gang, the King Lords, because he confessed to a crime to protect gang-leader King. Widely feared in the neighborhood, King now lives with Seven's mother, Seven's half-sister Kenya, who is friends with Starr, and Kenya's little sister, Lyric. Khalil's death becomes a national news story. The media portrays Khalil as a gang banger and drug dealer, while portraying the white officer who killed him more favourably. Starr's identity as the witness is initially kept secret from everyone outside Starr's family, including her younger brother Sekani. Keeping the secret from her white boyfriend Chris and her best friends Hailey Grant and Maya Yang – who all attend Williamson Prep;– weighs on Starr, as does her need to keep her Williamson and Garden Heights personalities separate. Starr's struggles with her identity are further complicated after her mother gets a higher-paying job and the family moves out of Garden Heights. After a grand jury fails to indict the white officer, Garden Heights erupts into both peaceful protests and riots. The failure of the criminal justice system to hold the officer accountable pushes Starr to take an increasingly public role, first giving a television interview and then speaking out during the protests, which are met by police in riot gear. Her increasing identification with the people of Garden Heights causes tension with Starr's friends, especially with her boyfriend Chris. But by the end of the novel, Starr and Maya have started standing up to Hailey's racist comments while Chris offers support to Starr. The climax of the novel occurs during the riot following the grand jury decision. Starr, Chris, Seven, and DeVante – who Maverick helped leave the King Lords – successfully defend Maverick's store from King. The neighborhood stands up to King and as a result of testimony by DeVante, King is arrested and expected to be imprisoned for a lengthy sentence. Starr promises to keep Khalil's memory alive and to continue her advocacy against injustice. ===== When Jack Regan is unable to meet his payments for his ill son, he hires a professional killer to do him in so his son will receive Jack's insurance money. ===== Buddy feels as if he has served his purpose by taking care of his deceased master, Ethan when he was alive, and Hannah and Ethan’s other family members who live on the Farm. His realtor, Laura, arrives with a couple, the Owens, to show them Paul's house, for sale because of Paul's financial difficulties. Before leaving to go hunting, Paul asks Laura to meet later at a diner. On his way, he receives a phone call advising his script cannot be submitted in its current form. Frustrated, Paul gets into an altercation with a truck driver who won't let him pass in traffic. He meets Laura. News of the "Roadside Killer" is being broadcast. The Owens are not interested in the house but Laura is interested in his work. He confides he has not written in a long time. Before leaving they make a dinner date. Meanwhile, the truck driver enters the restaurant. Upset, he attacks Paul, but is thrown out of the diner by Jack, another patron. Driving, Paul spots Jack hitchhiking and picks him up, inviting him to stay the night in his guestroom. Later Paul explains his phone connection is out and there is no internet. He tells Jack his history as a writer. Jack asks to read one of Paul's scripts and is given an unsold script called Under the Clock. Paul notices Jack's tattoo while he is swimming in an artificial pond near the house and Jack explains that it is a prison tattoo of a black butterfly; very rare and very hard to catch. Jack convinces Paul to quit drinking and to write a script based on Paul's life. Jack reads the first draft without Paul's consent and, unsatisfied, throws it into the fire, proposing that the character of "Jack" be a person working in collusion with the truck driver. That night Jack sneaks into Paul's room and puts a knife to his throat to show him that, unlike the girl pleading with her attacker in his script, in reality the victim does not speak a word. While Jack is chopping wood the next morning, Paul looks through old newspaper clippings and evidence he has collected about young women's disappearances but quickly hides it when Jack walks in. Later, while working on the script, Paul hears a gunshot and a woman scream. He goes outside to investigate but Jack indicates that it was a bird screeching due to the gunshot. A delivery man arrives with some goods. Jack points a shotgun at Paul and tells him not to walk too far. Once Paul gets rid of the delivery man, he argues with Jack about his twisted conduct. Attempting to leave, Paul ends up punching Jack but is wrestled to the ground and taken prisoner. Jack explains that he is paranoid about going back to prison. That night Paul sneaks out for drink but is stopped by Jack who then forces him to smash all the bottles, insisting that he is helping him. Later in the night, Paul has difficulties writing due to Jack terrorizing him. Laura arrives on a foggy morning asking why Paul hasn't answered her calls for days. At that moment, Paul rushes to her and tells her to give him her car keys so that they can escape Jack. Halfway down the road, Jack walks out in front of them and shoots at the car. He then forces them to push the car into the water and to come back to the house. Soon a sheriff arrives looking for a missing girl who was supposed to have been delivering a package. Paul says that he hasn't seen the girl but attempts to scream out a message, causing Jack to run out, force the sheriff into the trunk of his police vehicle and shoot him. Paul locks Jack out and barricades the windows to protect himself and Laura. When Jack pretends to drive the sheriff's car away, they attempt to run through the woods to catch the half- hourly train but Laura trips over a log and Jack catches them. That night Jack insists that Paul has broken their agreement. Laura, surprisingly, stabs Jack in the back with a pair of sewing scissors. Paul grabs the shotgun but Jack says he is not brave enough to shoot and wrestles it from him. He takes Laura into the study and ties Paul to a chair. Paul breaks a picture and uses the broken glass to cut himself free, goes downstairs where he picks up a shotgun and enters the study. Laura is unconscious on the floor. Paul explains to Jack that he understands what it is like to "kill" and believes Jack has been sent by God so that Paul can kill Jack and frame him as the Roadside Killer. He shoots at Jack but the bullets are blanks. Jack grabs the shotgun and knocks him unconscious. Paul wakes next morning and finds a group of FBI agents searching his house. He sees the sheriff uninjured and the truck driver, Laura, and Jack, all wearing FBI badges. Jack explains that they have been "tracking" him for three years and plays the recording of Paul's explanation of what it is like to kill. Paul complains that any evidence collected from his house is tainted because Jack and Laura had access to the house and could have planted it and that the tape recording is just his notes for a screenplay. Jack fears that they do not have enough evidence for a conviction. He notices an excavator with dirt on it. Looking through Paul's possessions, he finds a picture of Paul's wife in a yard that shows no artificial pond. Paul is impressed and attempts to make a deal to avoid the death penalty but Jack prefers "his own ending". The film ends with Paul waking up from what appeared to be a dream that happened to be the events of the film, and quickly attempts to type out the dream as a new script entitled Black Butterfly. ===== The body of a man is found in the bistro in Three Pines. Seeing obvious signs of drug use, David takes Nic to a rehab clinic. Progress is made, and Nic transfers to a halfway house, with the agreement of Nic's doctors. Days later, Nic disappears, and David finds him in the streets. Back at the rehab facility, Nic reveals that he has been taking numerous drugs, including crystal meth. Nic eventually completes his rehab program, and seeing his improvements, combined with wishful thinking, David allows him go away to college on his own, to become a writer. Nic's newfound freedom and sobriety start well, as he becomes a good student, and starts a relationship with his classmate, Julia. During a happy family dinner at his girlfriend's parents' house, Nic finds a bottle of pills in their medicine cabinet and swallows one. After this incident, he slowly relapses, causing Julia to break up with him, and his substance use to escalate, until he eventually purchases heroin. Around this time, beginning to become suspicious at his slowly changing behavior, David decides to read Nic's diary. To his horror, Nic has filled half the pages by colorfully describing his growing addictions through worrying words and disturbing cartoons. On one of the last pages, Nic writes of his difficulty obtaining meth in college, but that he managed to score some heroin. Returning home, David senses that Nic is using again, and Nic leaves of his own accord, feeling claustrophobic from his dad's suspicions about his drug use. David flies there to retrieve him, and after talking to his ex-wife and Nic's mother Vicki, he decides Nic should be sent to live with her in Los Angeles. Nic has a fresh start in Los Angeles. As he departs from their home however, Nic has a sudden surge of depression, resents his sobriety, and fears relapsing. Spencer gives Nic moral support over the phone, but to little avail. Later that night, Nic drives into San Francisco, where he runs into Lauren, a fellow drug addict from his past, and confesses his desire to "party," despite having been clean for quite some time. The two buy various drugs in the streets, which they proceed to inject together at Lauren's place, where they have sex. When he learns Nic has gone missing again, David prepares to look for him, but Karen protests that he has done everything he can for Nic, and he cannot do anything to fix his addiction, which David heartbrokenly accepts. Nic continues to plead, but David hangs up and breaks down in tears. Despairing, Nic overdoses, but he survives. David and Vicki visit him in the hospital, and David and Nic tearfully embrace. Those who fail the initiation of their particular faction are deemed Factionless and are treated as a lower class and a drain on society. After the revelation about their city, Evelyn Johnson-Eaton becomes Chicago's leader, which forces all factions to live equally with the Factionless. Confessing their role in the insurgency, Beatrice "Tris" Prior, Christina, and Cara are pardoned. Tris learns from Tobias "Four" Eaton about the rebel "Allegiant," who work to restore the faction system. Several people are killed in a confrontation between faction members and the Factionless, including Evelyn's right-hand man, Edward. Tris is invited to a meeting with the Allegiant, whose leaders, Cara and Johanna Reyes, plan to usurp Evelyn and send envoys outside the city. Tris is selected for the expedition, alongside Tobias, Cara, Christina, Peter Hayes, Uriah Pedrad, and Tori Wu. Tris asks Tobias to free her brother Caleb from execution. Tori is killed by the Factionless, and the others escape and meet Tobias's mentor, Amar, who has long been presumed dead. They are taken to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare and its leader, David. David explains that Chicago is walled off from the outside world in an experiment sanctioned by the US government to produce genetically-purer (GP) "Divergents" from the genetically-damaged (GD) population, the result of a failed attempt to correct human genes that led to the "Purity War." David gives Tris her mother Natalie's journal that details her life before Chicago. She was a refugee from Milwaukee who joined the Bureau and became a volunteer to stop Erudite's killing of Divergents. Those rescued included Amar and Tori's brother, George. Tobias learns he is not a true Divergent and joins GD Bureau member Nita in a rebellion against the GP staff. Tris is skeptical of the plan but jealous of Nita. The GP informant Matthew helps Nita access the Weapon Room and set off a bomb that causes to be Uriah brain-damaged. Tris stops Nita's rampage by holding David hostage before she wounds and arrests her. Tris is appointed a council member and realizes that the Bureau supplied Erudite with the simulation serums that controlled Dauntless in the invasion of Abnegation. Security footage reveals that Marcus Eaton, who was banished by Evelyn, is working with Johanna to steal weapons from the Factionless, which Evelyn will counter by releasing the death serum. Tris learns that David intends to release serums that can erase the population's memories to save his experiment. She formulates a plan to release the memory serum on the Bureau while Tobias, Christina, and Peter, with Amar and George's help, return to Chicago with antiserums for Christina and Uriah's families. Tobias, with his own plan to inject his mother with a memory serum, confronts her and asks her to avert the war in exchange for becoming his mother again. Evelyn agrees, negotiates peace with Johanna and Marcus, and exiles herself for two years, and Marcus vows never to lead Chicago. Tobias gives the memory serum to Peter, who intends to start anew. Caleb volunteers to expose the memory serum, a suicide mission, but Tris replaces him. She successfully repels the death serum but is shot by David. Dying, Tris sees visions of her mother embracing her, before she succumbs to her wounds. Tobias, Christina, and Peter return to the Bureau and learn from Cara of Tris's death. In a deep depression, Tobias is about to drink the memory serum to erase his memories of Tris until Christina stops him. Uriah's brother, Ezekiel "Zeke", and his mother, Hana, are with Uriah as his life support is unplugged. Two-and-a-half years later, Chicago is reopened and being rebuilt, and people co-exist regardless of gene purity. Tobias, now an assistant council member under Johanna, welcomes Evelyn back from her exile. To celebrate Choosing Day, he, Christina, Caleb, Zeke, Shauna, Cara, and Matthew ride a zip line from the Hancock Building, where Tobias scatters Tris's ashes and finally accepts her sacrifice. ===== In London, a cracksman helps people in a firm help him with a robbery. Four men people are trapped after a robbery. ===== The Kidd siblings: Storm, (Stephanie) Tommy, (Thomas) Bick, (Bickford) and Beck, (Rebecca) used to live a happy life on their ship until their father Thomas Kidd goes missing during a storm. Their mother also went missing three months earlier in Cyprus. The Kidds hold a small funeral for their father who is presumed to be dead. They continue to treasure hunt, their family business. The Kidds start their treasure hunt in the Cayman Islands, which was their treasure hunt destination before the storm. The four of them go into the secret compartment in their ship, The Lost, known as the Room, where they find a list of the top ten greatest treasures of the world. A speedboat follows the Kidds. They are taken to Louie Louie, referred to as the Big Man, a person who previously had done many deals with their father. He says that he needs an item their father promised to give him in exchange for a bee amulet and repairing The Lost for the Kidds. Tommy takes a girl named Daphne for a tour of the ship. Bick and Beck search her and find out that she was trying to steal a mwana pwo African mask. Louie Louie takes the mwana pwo mask, the item he desired and gives the Kidds the bee amulet. They find a map in the bee amulet titled Cordoba's Lost Fleet, which was a vessel that carried gold and silver bars that went missing after a hurricane. The map is later revealed to be a fake kept by the treasure hunter Nathan Collier, who was the number one nemesis of their parents. He informs the Police about their whereabouts who are about to take them to the orphanage but Storm's knowledge of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea saves them. We also learn later in the book that Solomon's knowledge helps them find where there dad is. Tommy reveals that their father had discovered two of Cordoba's lost fleet shortly after Bick and Beck's birth and was instructed to reveal the treasure only when the Kidds were in a financial crisis. They take most of the treasure from the fleet, leaving some behind. Using Louie Louie's contacts they are able to sell the treasure to his associate in Miami. Timothy, their father's overseer, arrives at their ship and announces that he is living with them. Soon afterward, The Lost is followed by speedboats with pirates. They ask the Kidds for the key to the Room but they lie they don't have a key. The pirates then kidnap Beck as a backup. They use a lie-detecting device on her but she manages to outsmart the pirates and steals a bottle of Pentothal from them. They give her back to Timothy. The Kidds, who have grown suspicious of Timothy, use the Pentothal on him after he goes to sleep. He reveals that he is a CIA agent and their parents were also spy agents who worked under him. The Kidds trust him and allow him to go to do his duty. Soon afterward, the pirates, who had used a long-range hearing device to spy on their conversations, come back. They are however tricked into jumping off the ship. Nathan Collier arrives suddenly by tracking Tommy's satellite phone. He takes the key from the Kidds and checks the room but doesn't find anything. The Kidds then travel to Portia Macy Hudson, an antique collector and trades the Bee amulet for a Grecian Urn. Daphne arrives at the spot and reveals herself as Portia's daughter, who tried to take the mwana pwo mask directly to Louie to trade for the bee amulet. The Kidds track Dr. Lewis who is actually Louie's brother. He says that the Grecian Urn is the one mentioned by the English poet John Keats in the poem,"Ode on a Grecian Urn". Dr. Lewis reveals the real story behind their mother's kidnapping. Aramis, commonly known as the pirate king, sends their mother to verify whether the Grecian urn with the pirates was an original. It was a fake and the pirates, furious for their deal being broken, kidnaps their mother for saying the truth. The Kidds try to take the Urn to the pirates to free their mother but it is stolen from the Kidds by a group of girls working for Nathan Collier. The Kidds, having no choice, go to Aramis as they have the provenance papers for proving the urn as an original. The Kidds, once close to the urn, take it and run. Suddenly, CIA agents under Uncle Timothy's leadership arrive and arrests Aramis. However, he only can save their mother from being killed by the pirates by making a deal with them. He makes the call to not kill their mother and is set free but his possessions are taken. Later on, the Kidds receive an email from their father and enjoy. Later on, the narrator, Bick, reveals it was him who sent the e-mail to make the family happy by making them think their father is alive and tells the readers not to tell anyone. ===== Alex Cross and his family, who live in Washington, D.C., travel to Starksville, North Carolina, so Alex and his wife Bree can help clear Alex's cousin Stefan Tate of a murder they suspect he did not commit. Stefan, a school teacher, is on trial for supposedly murdering Rashawn Turnbull, a boy in his class, and almost everyone in town is convinced he's guilty and wants him to hang. Alex has not been to Starksville since leaving as a child thirty-five years ago. The Cross family has not found the town to be welcoming to them, partly because they are there to help clear Stefan. Alex travels to Belle Glade, Florida, to get information on his father, who was said to have committed suicide near there. He meets a veteran Palm Beach County, Florida, sergeant, who is convinced Alex can help him catch a brutal serial killer in Palm Beach County. It turns out that the sergeant is Alex's long-lost father Jason. Meanwhile, Alex looks into Marvin Bell, a local businessman who has had dubious influence on the Cross family during Alex's childhood and is said to have orchestrated Jason Cross's fake death. After investigation, it turns out that Bell teamed up with Rashawn's maternal grandparents to ship a highly potent addictive drug across the South and were making large profits off of this drug. Rashawn's grandfather had killed Rashawn due to feeling shameful about the child's mixed heritage, then pinned it on Stefan since the latter had been investigating into the Starksville drug trade. It is also discovered that the entire judicial system of Starksville had been under FBI investigation for corruption. Following the incident, the FBI moves in and arrests all the judges in Starksville, with Stefan's case being dropped.https://www.amazon.com/Cross-Justice-Alex-James- Patterson/dp/0316407046/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid;=&sr;= . ===== In 1891, a couple visit a spiritualist named Madame Addison at 3:00 AM—the so-called witching hour—in order to try to find their lost daughter. Due to demonic intervention, all five people in the house die that night. Present day, John, whose wife has recently passed, purchases the same house, having no knowledge of the deaths that occurred there more than a century earlier. He is joined by his elder daughter, Izzy, and his two younger children, Victoria and Aiden. One day, while playing hide-and-seek, Victoria and Aiden come across a chest in the attic containing pictures, an old camera, an old doll, and an old pocket watch. Victoria becomes attached to the doll, saying it reminds her of her mother, while Aiden becomes attached to the old camera. John becomes concerned, but at the same time finds himself becoming attached to the pocket watch. His concern grows when Victoria faints, and grows further when he has a dream in which he brutally murders Aiden in his sleep. When he questions the realtor, however, she claims to know nothing about the house's history. Meanwhile, his elder daughter, Izzy, remains aloof, caring more about spending time with her boyfriend than being an active member of the family. One day, in the attic, John sees a girl—the daughter of the couple in 1891. John thinks it's just some girl who has wandered into their house, but she tells him to "burn them," referring to the contents of the chest, before disappearing. John takes the items that had been in the chest away from the kids and places them in a cardboard box at the end of his sidewalk, but the items reappear in the house. One night, at 3:00 AM, the younger kids, now fully possessed, beat their father nearly to death. When Izzy comes home, she finds her father, on the cusp of death; he tells her to "burn the chest." Izzy goes to John's room, collects the items, takes them to the back yard, and burns them. Unfortunately, it is too late. The ghost of Madame Addison kills John. Izzy and the children (now released from the power of Madame Addison) go back into the house and call 911. The call is disconnected and the lights go out. Madame Addison reappears; killing Izzy, Victoria, and Aiden off screen. She activates her droid, Dio, which sneaks to her cell and frees her; Iden had allowed herself to be captured in order to erase the Imperial transmission, which would reveal the Emperor's plan to ambush the Rebels at Endor. She successfully erases it, then escapes the ship by launching herself into space, whereupon she is intercepted by the Corvus, Inferno Squad's flagship. Aboard the Corvus, Iden confirms the mission's success to fellow squad members Del Meeko and Gideon Hask. Later on Endor, Inferno Squad secure the perimeter around the shield generator protecting the Death Star II, which was destroyed by a Rebel squad, and watch with shock and horror as the Death Star II explodes moments later. Vice Admiral Sloane orders a full retreat, and Inferno Squad escapes the moon aboard TIE fighters before it is overrun by Rebel forces. After destroying a squadron of Rebel starfighters around the Death Star II's ruins, Inferno Squad arrives on Admiral Garrick Versio's Star Destroyer, the Eviscerator, where he informs Iden of the Emperor's death. A messenger droid then displays a hologram of the late Emperor issuing his last command: to initiate Operation: Cinder. Admiral Versio sends Iden and Hask to an Imperial shipyard over Fondor to protect Moff Raythe's Star Destroyer, the Dauntless, which hosts experimental satellites vital to the success of Operation: Cinder. The Dauntless comes under attack from a Rebel Star Cruiser, but Iden and Hask manage to board it and destroy its ion cannons, before freeing the Star Destroyer, allowing it to open fire on the Cruiser and destroy it. Meanwhile, Del arrives on Pillio to destroy one of the Emperor's hidden bases. He encounters Luke Skywalker, who helps him fend off the local wildlife and gain access to the base, discovering it contains the Emperor's spoils of conquest, one of which Luke claims for himself. The pair part amicably, as Del begins to question the Empire's goals and motives. Later, Inferno Squad are sent to Iden's homeworld, the Imperial-controlled planet Vardos, to retrieve Protectorate Gleb, just as Operation: Cinder is about to begin. After witnessing the satellites for Operation: Cinder slowly destroying Vardos with storms, Iden and Del, disillusioned by the Empire's actions, abort their mission to try to evacuate civilians, causing Hask to betray them. The pair return to the Corvus and make their escape, now traitors to the Empire. Seeking out the Rebel Alliance, they meet General Lando Calrissian, who gives them the choice of helping stop Operation: Cinder, or escaping to start new lives. Choosing to help, they aid Leia Organa in protecting Naboo, destroying the satellites for Operation: Cinder and reactivating the planet's defenses. After Naboo is liberated, Inferno Squad joins the New Republic. Months later, Inferno Squad – Iden, Del, and Shriv Suurgav – is sent to Takodana to find General Han Solo, who has gone missing during his mission to extract critical data from an Imperial defector that can help liberate Kashyyyk. After Solo and the defector make their way past a squad of stormtroopers and back to the Millennium Falcon, Inferno Squad arrives to help them flee the planet. The recovered data reveals that Admiral Versio is commanding Imperial operations on both Bespin and Sullust. On Bespin, Iden and Del attempt to capture the Admiral, but are led into a trap by Hask. The pair escape, destroying a Star Destroyer fueling station in the process. On Sullust, Lando and Shriv investigate a hidden Imperial weapons cachet and find a weapons factory instead, which they destroy. With both operations crippled, the Imperial fleet makes a last stand at Jakku. During the battle, Iden shoots down Hask and boards the Eviscerator, intending to rescue her father. Admiral Versio decides to go down with his ship, feeling obligated to die with the Empire he fought to protect, and urges Iden to escape and live a new life, commending her for seeing the Empire's weaknesses. Iden takes an escape pod and reunites with Del and Shriv. Iden and Del embrace and kiss, as the battle marks the end of the Galactic Empire. Three decades later, Del is captured on Pillio by Protectorate Gleb, who hands him over to Kylo Ren and the First Order. Ren uses the Force to interrogate Del about the location of the map leading to Luke Skywalker, before leaving him to Hask, who expresses disgust at Del choosing to father a daughter with Iden instead of becoming a soldier, and kills him. Hask then tells Gleb that the New Republic cannot find out about "Project Resurrection" and orders her to leave the Corvus on Pillio as bait to lure Iden out of hiding. ===== ===== Divorce proceedings is the last and the most difficult act in the life of any family. Rie wanted him to get a legitimate job and they are staying at a church down the road from where she grew up in a geisha house run by her father. Rie spends her time caring for a friend from high school who has been hospitalized since being injured in an automobile accident while Rie was driving. Rie's mother died and she does not get along with her step-mother Chiharu Ishibashi, who runs the geisha house alone now that Rie's father has also died. Chiharu feels that Rie blames her for her father's death so she angrily sells information about her daughter-in-law's location to Kenmochi's men for 20 million yen. Takeshi visits his mother Haruko in the care home, where she calls him Iwaida in confusion and reveals that she became pregnant with Iwaida's son and chose to raise him as Takeshi. Hideshi confirms this story when Takeshi visits him but wonders why Mr. Nishiwaki would choose to have Takeshi kill Iwaida if he knew that Iwaida was Takeshi's father. Kenmochi's men arrive at the church but Chiharu has a change of heart and jumps between them and Rie, subsequently dying from gunshot wounds. Hideshi grabs Rie while Takeshi quickly shoots all of Kenmochi's men. Hideshi returns home to his wife and daughter Natsumi in Yokohama. Officer Shiraki from the Yamashita Police Department visits Hideshi and tells him that Yamaguchi from the Hyogo Police Department wants his help solving the Iwaida murder in Kyoto. Shiraki knows that the hitman is Lightning Takeshi, that is to say Takeshi Miwa, Hideshi's younger brother, and has been told by Yamaguchi to keep an eye on the Miwa house. He also wants to find Hideshi's other brother Takashi because of the murder of Kenmochi's man when they rescued Mariko. The men circle the boat and shoot their guns into it but do not kill anyone. Hisako offers herself to Hideshi once again in a move to combine forces in order to gain influence with Mr. Nishiwaki and push Omaeda out of power but Hideshi rejects her again. Hideshi is informed by Shiraki that Kenmochi is trying to blackmail Nishiwaki using information that Iwaidi knew which led to his killing. Haruko commits suicide and the three brothers go to her wake together. They honor her last wish to have them bring her ashes back to the family home. Several armed men attack the home and end up killing Takashi. Mariko grieves heavily. Hideshi asks Hisako to get the information from Omaeda. He admits that Nishiwaki sold information about the underworld to GHQ during the six years that the occupation forces remained in Japan after the war and it was only through this connection that he could amass his fortune and gain as much influence as he did. GHQ disappeared along with any documents about these activities so only Nishiwaki's henchman Omaeda, Iwaida, and Iwaida's lover Haruko knew about Nishiwaki's actions after the war that would cause him to lose power in the underworld if they were exposed. Hideshi calls Nishiwaki and asks him to go with him to the Philippines to carry out the deal for the counterfeit money. His lawyer, Félix Leiva, hires prestigious defense attorney Virginia Goodman who visits him early one morning with the news that the prosecutor has found a witness who will be testifying in front of a judge soon, so he must tell the whole story quickly. Adrián tells Virginia how he and Laura ended their affair months ago but received a call blackmailing them to come to a rural hotel with €100,000. At the hotel, Adrián was knocked unconscious and awoke to find Laura dead in the bathroom. The police arrive and, finding the room door locked and chained from the inside, break in. The windows are locked and the handles removed during the winter, leaving Adrián the only suspect. After his arrest, his wife leaves him and takes their young daughter. Virginia insists Adrián is not telling her the whole truth. Adrián then narrates further back, how he claimed to be in Paris but was really in a cabin with Laura. As they drive back to Barcelona through Sierra y Cañones de Guara, Adrián tries to convince her to end their adulterous relationship. Distracted, Adrián swerves into the oncoming lane to avoid a deer, clipping another car, which hits a tree. Although they are unhurt, the driver of the other car, a bank employee named Daniel Garrido, 23, is killed. Laura rationalizes that it is not entirely their fault since Daniel was texting and not wearing his seat belt. When another car approaches, Laura pushes Daniel's body down across the passenger's seat, and she and Adrián pretend to exchange insurance information. She answers Daniel's phone when it rings to continue the ruse, and the other driver leaves, convinced. Laura waits for a towtruck in Adrián's car, which will not start, while Adrián dumps Daniel's car in a lake with his body in the trunk. Adrian remains around the place of the accident, while Laura departs with the towtruck towing Adrian's car. Later on, Laura, upset, returns to the place of the accident (where Adrian is still waiting) driving Adrian's car, and tells him how his car was repaired. An automotive engineer, Tomás, drove by and offered to help Laura, who claimed she hit a deer. He towed Adrian's car to his (Tomás') house to fix it. While talking to Tomás' wife, Elvira, Laura sees some photographs and realizes Daniel Garrido is their son. Laura, who still has Daniel's phone in her pocket, hides it in their couch as Elvira calls, looking for her son. As Laura leaves in Adrián's car, Tomás Garrido notices her adjusting her seat, proving that she was lying when she claimed she was driving. He notes the car's number plates as Laura leaves. After Adrián sells his car and reports it stolen, he parts ways with Laura, hopefully for good. Within a few days, Adrián is summoned to the police station, as Tomás has reported his plate number to the police. Félix arranges for a false alibi for Adrián in Paris, and bribes the police to remove Adrián's name from the Garrido case file. When the news report that Daniel is on the run after embezzling money from the bank, Adrián confronts Laura, who admits that she had taken Daniel's wallet when they put his body in the trunk; later on, using the information of Daniel, Laura, whose husband works for the same bank, hacked into Daniel’s account and stole money to create a fake trail. Adrián tells her that what she did is wrong, but Laura threatens to frame him too. Adrián is named European Businessman of the Year, and Tomás poses as a reporter during the ceremony to confront him. Tomás notices that Adrián pulls out the same cigarette lighter he saw when fixing the car. He begs Adrián to tell him where his son's body is to bury him as security removes Tomás. Days later, Adrián receives a photo of a lake with instructions to take Laura to the rural hotel with €100,000. Adrián thinks the blackmailer may be the driver they saw after the accident, if he followed Adrián as he dumped the car into the lake. Back in the present, Virginia suggests that to save himself, Adrián could claim he saw the face of the man who hit him in the rural hotel room and that attacker was Tomás. She tells Adrián that there was no surprise witness (referring to the witness Virginia mentioned when she and Adrian just met each other), and she only told him that to force him to tell the truth of the whole story quickly. Adrián then reveals he had always known it was Tomás, as he did see his face, but was also testing Virginia. Virginia suggests planting an item of Laura's in the trunk of Daniel's car with Daniel's body, and claiming she acted alone. Adrián then confesses that as he was pushing the car into the lake, Daniel woke up, as he was only unconscious; an autopsy would reveal he drowned. Virginia is shocked but states she will not reveal this to the judge. Virginia says Laura's autopsy shows she was suffering from anxiety, likely from a guilty conscience, and suggests Adrián is lying to make it seem like Laura was the mastermind behind their deceit. However, Virginia says she believes Tomás framed him because Elvira (the wife of Tomás) works at the rural hotel where Laura's body was found, and that's why the Garridos chose that place: Elvira could have easily unlocked the window for her husband to escape after killing Laura, and later locked the window, making it seem like nobody else came in. Virginia says Tomás has been stalking him (Adrián), Félix and even herself, and points to an apartment across the street, where Tomás is lurking. She continues to push Adrián, who finally admits that he killed Laura and staged the scene. Félix phones and leaves a message on Adrián's home voicemail machine, urging him to call back as he was unable to reach him on his cellphone. Virginia suggests he return Félix's call as they take a quick 10-minute break. She exits the apartment and begins to quickly walk with great urgency. Adrián meanwhile turns on his cellphone and calls Félix: Félix again says to Adrian that he could not get a hold of him due to his cellphone being off, so he informs that the prosecution's witness is indeed the other driver, but his silence was successfully bought. As Félix questions how the meeting with Virginia is going, the call begins to go in and out with high pitched tones, Adrián then realizes the pen exploded and stained his shirt with ink due to a signal interruption caused by the cellphone call, revealing that the pen Virginia had given to him was bugged and their entire conversation with her had been recorded. He recalls Virginia turning off his phone previously, most probably so the cellphone signal would not disrupt the recording. He looks into the other apartment and sees Tomás standing next to Virginia, who reveals herself to be Elvira Garrido in disguise. Using the confession Elvira coerced from Adrián, Tomás calls the police as the real Virginia Goodman arrives at Adrián's apartment. ===== The story takes place in between the events of SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Heist.https://www.destructoid.com/steamworld-dig-2-will-take- place-between-the-first-game-and-steamworld-heist-457454.phtml Following Rusty's disappearance at the end of SteamWorld Dig, Dorothy, a robot who he had befriended, travels to the mining town of El Machino in order to search for him. He tasks them to kill a man named Hermann Warm. John Morris, a private detective, has been engaged by the Commodore to track Warm down and hand him over to the Sisters brothers. Morris finds Warm traveling by wagon train to California with the Gold Rush and befriends him. They travel to Jacksonville where, unbeknown to Warm, Morris has arranged his rendezvous with the Sisters brothers. Warm finds Morris’ handcuffs, realizes his true intentions, and threatens him at gunpoint, but Morris overpowers him. Refusing to allow an innocent man’s murder, Morris frees Warm and the two leave Jacksonville. On the road toward San Francisco, Warm reveals that his ultimate plan is to create a utopian society, free from greed and other social ills in Dallas, Texas. Meanwhile, the brothers' pursuit is plagued by misfortune. A grizzly bear attacks their camp and mauls a horse, Eli almost dies from a venomous spider bite, and Charlie is repeatedly drunk and too hung over to ride. When they discover Morris' betrayal in Jacksonville, they follow the pair to Mayfield. A sympathetic prostitute warns Eli of an impending attack, and he attempts to leave with a drunken Charlie, but they are cornered by gunslingers hired by Mayfield. The brothers kill the gunslingers and interrogate Mayfield as to Warm's and Morris’ whereabouts, before murdering and robbing her. In San Francisco, Charlie and Eli argue about continuing their hunt. Eli wishes to retire but Charlie angrily rejects this idea. The next day, Charlie reveals that he has found a claim staked in Morris’ name a few days' ride away. Eli agrees to complete the hunt as their final job. On the way to the claim site, the brothers are ambushed and captured by Warm and Morris, who are then attacked by Mayfield's men sent before her death to claim the formula for herself. The four men team up to kill Mayfield's men, after which Charlie and Eli agree to help Warm and Morris find gold in exchange for half the takings. Warm and Morris decide to prospect together and create a phalanstère in Dallas. Working to dam the river, the new partners develop a camaraderie. Eli reveals to Warm that Charlie killed their abusive, alcoholic father when they were young, and that Charlie's short temper and violent tendencies put him in danger, so Eli reluctantly took up their present employment to protect him. The dam is completed, and Warm explains that when his chemical formula is added to water, it causes gold ore to glow briefly, but is extremely caustic. The men pour the formula into the river and begin gathering the gold. When the glow begins to fade, Charlie panics and tries to add more formula, but spills the undiluted substance onto his hand and into the river. Eli rushes out of the river to restrain Charlie, while the undiluted formula badly injures Warm and Morris. The next day, Warm succumbs to his injuries while Morris shoots himself to end his suffering. Eli takes Charlie to the nearest town, where a doctor amputates his arm. Hired guns sent by the Commodore arrive and demand their surrender. Eli shoots them, and he and Charlie decide they must kill the Commodore. They arrive in Oregon City to find that the Commodore has died. During the brothers' visit to the Commodore's open casket, Eli punches the Commodore's corpse to verify the Commodore has indeed died. The brothers return home to their mother; though initially suspicious, she welcomes them in. ===== A man (Alexander Hay) plans to murder his rich wife Rosa (Irene Sims). Finn, Jake, and BMO eventually locate Princess Bubblegum (voiced by Hynden Walch), who has become a large candy tower being with the power to forcibly convert matter into candy. While BMO is completely transformed by Bubblegum's power, Finn and Jake are rescued by Ice King (voiced by Tom Kenny), who then takes them to the Sky Kingdom. As Finn and Jake look down upon Ooo, they discover that it has been completely corrupted by the four primordial elements: candy, ice, slime, and fire. Ice King explains that after Finn, Jake, and BMO left on their adventure Betty (voiced by Felicia Day) attempted to get Ice King to remember who he really is but in the process was kidnapped by Patience St. Pim (voiced by Lauren Lapkus), the ice elemental. Patience used Betty's magic to ensnare Princess Bubblegum, Flame Princess (voiced by Jessica DiCicco), and Slime Princess (voiced by Maria Bamford), who make up the remaining elementals. Unfortunately, Patience's plan went awry, and the elemental magic she unleashed took over Ooo. Finn, Jake and Ice King travel to the Ice World and confront Patience, who is disappointed that her plan did not go as planned. The group flee from the Ice Kingdom and rescue Betty, who argues that she can reset the world with an alternate-universe version of the Enchiridion. In order to activate the book's power, however, the group must track down the jewels of power, which are found in the elementals' crowns. Finn and Jake journey to the transformed Slime Kingdom to retrieve Slime Princess' crown for her jewel. They run into Lumpy Space Princess (voiced by Ward), who is attending Slime Princess's roller skating party. The winners of the skating competition get absorbed into Slime Princess's whole being while the losers are caged up. Finn, Jake and Lumpy Space Princess enter, but lose, only to learn that by losing they still get absorbed. While Finn manages to grab the crown, Jake gets fully absorbed into Slime Princess, forcing Lumpy Space Princess to save Finn. Finn and Lumpy Space Princess flee and, along with Gunter the penguin, they journey to a radically altered Fire Kingdom to locate Flame Princess and her crown. The group finds the monarch—who has turned into a mighty dragon—in the bowels of the kingdom. When Flame Princess swallows the jewel necessary to save Ooo, Finn gives into his violence and begins attacking her, which transforms him into a fire person. Lumpy Space Princess, angered by the violence, yells at everyone to stop their fighting. The kingdom misinterprets her anger and decide to start a war with the Candy Kingdom. Lumpy Space Princess chases after Finn and attempts to turn him back to normal, but to no avail; the Fire Kingdom citizens then start to fight the inhabitants of the Candy Kingdom. In a last ditch effort to save the world, Lumpy Space Princess reaches out to Finn's "hero heart," which reminds him of happiness, returning him to normal. Finn collects the jewels necessary to revert the world and gives them to Betty, but she betrays him and leaves him behind. Betty reveals that she wants to use the jewels to go back in time and stop Simon from transforming into Ice King. Ice King, oblivious to her plans, accidentally ruins her spell, causing her to get transported to Mars. Meanwhile, Lumpy Space Princess rescues Finn from the candy inhabitants as Princess Bubblegum begins to convert the rest of Ooo into candy. Finn realizes that throughout this ordeal, Lumpy Space Princess has yet to be converted by elemental magic. He speculates that her immunity means that she is, in effect, the anti-elemental. After Ice King arrives with the gems, Lumpy Space Princess taps into her anti-elemental powers and transforms Ooo back to normal. However, Jake now has five eyes and looks like his shape-shifter parent. Finn tells him that they'll find a way no matter what to fix everything, while Jake nervously laughs as he seems to not be aware of his true form. ===== On Christmas Eve in Victorian London, Benjamin Stahlbaum gives his children Louise, Clara, and Fritz the presents his wife Marie had set aside for them before she died. Clara receives an egg-shaped box which she is unable to unlock, together with a note saying "Everything you need is inside". The family goes to a Christmas Eve ball, hosted by the children's godfather and skilled engineer Drosselmeyer. Clara asks Drosselmeyer how to unlock her egg. He reveals that he made the egg for Marie when she was younger. Benjamin scolds her for refusing to dance with him, and they insult each other. Clara finds her string with her name on it, signifying her gift, and follows it into a forest in a parallel world where she sees a key. Before she can grab it, a mouse snatches it and crosses a frozen river. Captain Philip Hoffman, the Nutcracker, leads Clara across the bridge into the Fourth Realm, where they hardly escape the mouse king and Mother Ginger, the regent of the Fourth Realm. Captain Philip brings Clara to the palace, where she meets the regents of each land: the Sugar Plum Fairy of the Land of Sweets; Shiver of the Land of Snowflakes, and Hawthorne of the Land of Flowers. They tell Clara they are at war with the Land of Amusements, which they refer to as "the Fourth Realm". It is also revealed Marie was the beloved Queen of this magical land and, thus, Clara is the princess. The Sugar Plum Fairy explains that Marie created this world as a young girl, and that she animated everyone with a machine that can turn toys into real people. Sugar Plum says this machine can be used to defend the three realms against Mother Ginger, but it needs a key matching the one for Clara's egg. Sneaking into the Fourth Realm, Clara and Philip steal back the key from Mother Ginger (ignoring her warning that Sugar Plum is lying to them), but Clara is disappointed to discover that the egg is only a music box. Sugar Plum uses the machine to bring toy soldiers to life and orders them to attack the Fourth Realm. She then reveals that she lied about Mother Ginger, who had resisted Sugar Plum's plan to take over all four realms in revenge for her perceived abandonment by Marie, and that the machine can turn this world's people back into toys as well. She imprisons Clara, Captain Philip, and the male regents. Clara opens her egg-shaped music box again and discovers a mirror, illustrating that all she needed was herself. She and the other prisoners escape. One of Mother Ginger's mice shows Clara into the engine room, and Captain Philip convinces Mother Ginger to help overthrow Sugar Plum. Clara shuts down the machine while fighting off soldiers with Mother Ginger's aid. Sugar Plum attempts to turn Mother Ginger back into a toy, but Clara tinkers with the machine so it aims back at Sugar Plum when activated, turning her back into a porcelain doll and rendering her entire army lifeless. Thanked for restoring peace among the Realms and the destruction of Sugar Plum, Clara promises to visit the Realms in the future. After saying goodbye to Philip, she returns to London, where time has hardly passed since she left. She and Benjamin apologize to each other and she finally decides to dance with him. He accepts, and Clara opens her music box. Benjamin reveals that the music was the first song that he and Marie had ever danced to. They dance throughout the night in the ballroom. ===== The Wahoo bobcat is the biggest bobcat in the Florida water prairie wilderness. He departs after exchanging a few words and congratulating Awasthi for his impending promotion, leaving the latter surprised. Shrikant then reveals that Walter's still working undercover for India and how the latter's siding with Pakistan was all part of the plan. The bombing didn't cause any deaths as the villagers, warned about bad weather conditions, were moved out 24 hours before it took place. The ploy works as moments later, police drive by without noticing him. The woman, Jewel, who is grateful for his help, buys Tucker lunch at a diner. Despite introducing himself with a fake name, Tucker becomes drawn to Jewel to the point of revealing that he is a bank robber. The two later spend time together on Jewel's farm where Tucker becomes enamored with her and her life. Carly escapes with her friend Riley, whose mother strangles her when the two girls reach Riley's house. Carly runs home in terror and finds Damon, who has killed his father in self-defense. Telling Carly that the parents only want to kill their own kids, he accompanies her home to get Josh somewhere safe. Kendall goes to the hospital where her sister Jeannie is giving birth, but the static transmits just afterward, causing her to attempt to kill her newborn daughter as Kendall tries to save her. Kendall escapes the hospital after seeing television reports of the mass hysteria: the static compels parents to slaughter their children. Kendall heads home to protect her own children. Seeing Carly at home with Damon, the hysteria overtakes Brent and he knocks Damon out and attacks Carly. Kendall, having been exposed to the static, joins him when she gets home. Carly and Josh lock themselves in the basement and Brent and Kendall use a power saw to get through the door. Josh pulls out Brent's gun and fires through the door, wounding his mother. Kendall and Brent, bonding over their shared filicidal desire, run a hose from their oven's gas pump to the basement to poison the kids. When Carly sees the gas, she rigs up a trap with matches at the door and hides with Josh in the ventilation system. Brent cuts the lock off and opens the door, igniting the gas and triggering an explosion that knocks both parents out and awakens Damon. Damon helps Carly and Josh evade their parents, but Kendall awakens, stabs him in the cheek, and knocks him out again. As the parents close in on their kids, the doorbell rings. When Brent opens the door, his mother pepper-sprays him and his father stabs him; the hysteria affects them as well. Everyone chases one another through the house: Josh evades Brent, who attempts to hide from his father in the garage; Kendall chases Carly and hits her on the head before her mother-in-law knocks her out. Brent starts the car and crashes it, killing both his parents and knocking himself out. Kendall prepares to finish Carly off, but Damon knocks her out with a shovel. Kendall and Brent wake up to find themselves restrained in the basement with Carly, Josh, and Damon watching them. They continue to exhibit symptoms of the hysteria, and the kids refuse to let them go. Kendall tearfully tells the children she loves them, and Brent continues: "But sometimes we just want to—-" The film ends before he can finish his sentence. After infiltrating the building and killing the armed men he finds there, he discovers the girl tied to a chair with a bomb strapped to her chest. Black is unable to defuse the bomb before it explodes. Black suddenly wakes up in an old, abandoned asylum, with a strange device strapped to his head. He is introduced via television screens to a shadowy figure identifying itself as Red, who tells him the device is known as the Pandora, or Savant, an experimental technology designed to record and play back human memory for analytical purposes. In this case, Red wants Black to explore the circumstances surrounding the girl's kidnapping, claiming that Black had something to do with it, although he cannot remember anything. While making his way through the asylum, Black encounters several fellow inmates, whose fates are ultimately determined by his actions. Many of them refer to Black as the "Puppet Master" and make other references to Alice in Wonderland. Through the examination of several of his own memories and others provided by Red, Black begins to piece together what happened. He was hired by a man named Robert Ramsey to infiltrate ADS, a weapons contractor, and steal a prototype of their latest invention, the CornerGun. Ramsey then patented the CornerGun as his own creation, nearly bankrupting ADS and humiliating its CEO, Roger Howard. As a reward, Ramsey made Black the head of security for his own company. Black manages to recall the name Jasper Prado, an Irish mercenary who was killed in suspicious circumstances around the same time as the kidnapping. Further investigation reveals that Jasper was hired by Rose Atkins, Robert Ramsey's research assistant, with whom he had an affair. Atkins, an ambitious, amoral woman, felt she was not getting the credit she deserved for the Pandora project and decided to betray Ramsey. She hired Prado and his men to kidnap Ramsey's daughter Grace and demand the Pandora device as ransom. Black frequently stumbles upon memories that depict Ramsey as a driven man whose obsession with memory—presumably due to his mother's succumbing to some form of mental illness—and the hope that his Pandora device will change the world causes him to neglect his wife Lenore and Grace. Based on these flashbacks and Red's angry response to them, Black deduces that Red is really Robert Ramsey, who confirms this and declares his intention to find out why Grace was taken. Black remembers himself confronting Rose about the kidnapping and then throwing her out a window, killing her. When Ramsey questions his motives, Black cannot offer a definitive answer. Black's final memory is of himself being approached by Howard, who propositions him to steal the Pandora device as revenge for the CornerGun theft, in exchange for a hefty reward and a purging of Black's criminal record (which Ramsey is apparently using as leverage). Black flatly refuses; Ramsey, however, does not believe this either, and reveals that Black is not in an asylum at all, but incapacitated in a life support chamber. The "world" dissolves around Black as he screams for mercy. The player then assumes the role of Ramsey, who is sequestered in a basement room filled with technology powering his Pandora device, through which he has been reviewing Black's recall of his memories, while Black himself is still in the life support chamber. With the help of an AI named Hope, Ramsey decides to perform an "audit" of specific memories, believing that Black was deliberately trying to hide something from him. However, these memories are distorted further by Ramsey's own fragile mental state. Distraught over the kidnapping and Lenore's leaving him because of it, Ramsey has Black, who was put in a coma by the bombing, taken from the hospital and put into his care. He discovers Black had some knowledge of the kidnapping, and that the intended target was Lenore, but Prado's impulsiveness led to Grace being taken instead. When Black discovers this, and the fact that Prado has also constructed a bomb against orders, he murders Prado himself and forces Atkins to tell him where Grace is. Unfortunately, he fails to defuse the bomb, which is haphazardly constructed and far too powerful. In the audit of Black's meeting with Howard, Black again refuses to work for Howard, but this time offers to have Howard work for him, revealing himself as the mastermind behind the kidnapping (hence the "Puppet Master" references). Depending on Black's morality during the game Ramsey either shuts off Black's life support, killing him or sends Black away to a hospital to live out the rest of his comatose life. Suddenly, the room begins to dissolve and a disembodied voice of Grace, which Black has heard throughout the game, condemns her father for causing all this to happen. Overcome with guilt, Ramsey admits that he is a terrible father and husband, who loved both his family and his mistress but could commit to neither, because he wanted his work to make a difference in the world more than anything. In a final twist, the disembodied voice is revealed to be Grace in the real world; she survived the explosion, but was left paralyzed from the waist down, and has been using the only working Pandora prototype to watch her father's memories, including his watching Black analyze his own memories. Grace can choose to shut down the Pandora link to her father, or watch one final memory: a distraught Ramsey confronts an unrepentant Howard and kills him, before attempting to commit suicide, which has left him in a vegetative state. Atkins - whose death at Black's hands was another false memory - reveals that Ramsey left his company and research to Grace, and urges her to sign a contract allowing work on the Pandora to continue. A disgusted Lenore tries to object, but Grace insists she knows what she's doing. Based on the player's approach to use of lethal force throughout the game, and certain choices made as Black (which are catalogued during Ramsey's audit), one of two endings occur. In the Good ending, Grace signs the contract, which will make her rich and still in control of the company, and fires Atkins, vowing to ensure the technology be used the way her father hoped it would be. In the Bad ending, Grace refuses to sign and destroys the Pandora prototype, ensuring the technology will never be used again. ===== In the 22nd century, Ern A. She is from the people who carry (and communicate with) actual "ghosts" of their ancestors (the tradition called "ghostweight")."" a review in Strange Horizons The philosophy and the plot of the story are closely associated with origami. Origami serves as a metaphor for history: "It is not true that the dead cannot be folded. Square becomes kite becomes swan; history becomes rumor becomes song. Even the act of remembrance creases the truth."Molly Brown, "King Arthur and the Knights of the Postmodern Fable"; in: The Middle Ages in Popular Culture: Medievalism and Genre - Student Edition, 2015, p. 163 A major element of the plot is the weaponry called jerengjen of space mercenaries, which unfold from flat shapes: "In the streets, jerengjen unfolded prettily, expanding into artillery with dragon-shaped shadows and sleek four-legged assault robots with wolf-shaped shadows. In the skies, jerengjen unfolded into bombers with kestrel-shaped shadows." The story says that the word means the art of paper folding in the mercenaries' main language. In an interview, when asked about the subject, the author says that he became fascinated with dimensions after reading the novel Flatland. ===== The story of the film is based on the murder of Yazdgerd III, the last emperor of Sasanian Persia, who while being hard pressed by the Arabs on his western flank, fled to Marv where he was slain by a miller in a mill, in which he had been taking refuge. The film begins with the Zoroastrian high priest (magus) of the Persian Empire, accompanied by the imperial army commander entering the mill to try the miller accused of murdering the emperor. The miller, his wife and his daughter, while trying to exculpate themselves, all express a different version of the same incident. As the story shifts, more questions come up than are answered. A central theme in the film is the social disaffection among the general population of Persia at the eve of the Arab Islamic conquests and inequality in the highly class-based society, in which the wealthy elite and the Magi had amassed a disproportionate amount of wealth that they owed to heavy taxation and the benefactions of the pious. ===== In 1950s Sudan, beautiful student Soraya can barely wait to marry her handsome and intelligent cousin Nur. Later on that night Otomo is chauffeured to a nightclub full of prostitutes. He is treated with the utmost respect by all thus identifying him as the chief. He soon receives a call from a customer at a hotel with a service complaint. Otomo and a team of men go to meet the customer and encounter a henchman beating up on two of his prostitutes in a hotel living room. Otomo is told that the two prostitutes were non-compliant with their boss, Hanada of the Hanabishi family, the Yakuza family that controls most of Japan. When they go in to talk to him in the bedroom they find him on the bed littered with S&M; toys. When Otomo asks for compensation for having hurt the girls Hanada angrily and disrespectfully threatens him. However, only after Otomo's men all show that they are armed and more than willing to shoot him, does Hanada calm down, and softly asks how much should he pay, Otomo tells him to consider the damage and offense he has caused and to pay them accordingly the next day. It is Hanada who blurts out 2 million yen that that amount is finalized. However, Hanada reneges on his promise to pay and has Otomo's man killed when he tries to pick-up the money the next day. (Here the movie presents the viewer a comparison between two Yakuza, Otomo and Hanada. Otomo the older of the two demonstrates work-ethic, loyalty and honor to his clan, while Hanada represents greed, perversion and lack of respect. Hanada tries to solve everything through violence or money. The killing of Otomo's man is taken by Otomo as the greatest personal offense, even though it is clear that he didn't even know his man's name and Otomo is willing to put his life at risk to restitute his honor.) When Hanada, now back in Tokyo, describes the incident to Nakata his boss, the seriousness of his actions are given consideration once they identify that Otomo and the man Hanada had killed belong to Mr. Chang, a fixer who also owns a multinational criminal organization. Nakata offers to mediate the matter for Hanada by meeting with Mr. Chang, intending to settle the situation with 30 million yen as an offering of peace. However, Mr. Chang refuses the 30 million yen, and curiously gives them another 30 million yen to take with them once they leave. Nakata and Hanada are puzzled by Mr Chang's gesture until their boss Nishino, the second in command of the Hanabishi clan, mistakenly explains that their original offer of 30 million yen was not enough, and to show his displeasure and the insignificance of their offer Mr. Chang gave them an equal amount. Nishino's explanation is proven wrong however when he meets Mr. Chang and presents him this time with 100 million yen. Mr. Chang refuses again and this time does not even take the time to give Nishino and Hanada the minimum courtesy of attending them nor their 100 million yen. It is clear that while the Hanabishi family are dealing with the situation in the standard way the Yakuza does, Chang does not. (This brings to light another of the underlying themes of the movie: the comparison of the modern Yakuza and the Chang, a similar organization that has evolved. Since Mr. Chang, in scene after scene, refuses to take either vengeance or tribute for the perceived offense and even goes to the extreme of declaring that the Chang are not Yakuza. The Chang organization is now a modern multinational corporation dealing in multi-billion-yen real-estate projects throughout Asia.) While this is happening in the forefront, in the background the politics of the Hanabishi clan are in full display. The current clan chairman is an ex-stock-broker Nomura who assumed power of the clan because he was the brother-in-law of the old chairman. Nishino and Nakata have very little respect for him and want to take advantage of the Hanada-Otomo conflict in order to overthrow and eliminate Nomura, blaming it on the Chang organization in the process. Meanwhile, the Sanno clan (absorbed into the Hanabishi clan in the previous film) carefully assesses the situation and tries to take advantage for themselves. Mr Chang minimizes the conflict and settles the situation peacefully and wants Otomo to stand down from any retribution he is planning, while Hanada's men try to assassinate Mr. Chang, but fail. Being a former Sanno clan member and personally has conflict with the Hanabishi clan, Otomo decides to avenge the offense to him and Mr Chang by traveling back to Japan and killing the Hanabishi responsible. (Thus the two themes come together: a new wealthy multi-national organization whose members work, loyalty and honor are unparalleled against an old decrepit clan whose main motivation by its members' values is to squeeze every situation for financial profit even if it means betraying its own members.) The conflict culminates in Otomo seeking out all the Hanabishi responsible and killing them all in insidious ways. He did all this without Mr. Chang's approval, and consequently, he punishes himself by committing modern seppuku - shooting himself as punishment for his offense towards Mr. Chang, once again demonstrating his honor and loyalty. Mr. Chang, when told of the news, reflects sadly while staring into the empty distance. ===== A former member of an elite Soviet military team is ordered to kill three men or his family will be exterminated. ===== Mark Branski (J.D. Although by nature a congenial fellow, he decides to adopt an authoritarian manner when learning of his pupils' unruly womanising. However his stern lectures that women have no place on an aerodrome are undermined when his friend Marianne unexpectedly visits him, and even more so when two female trainee pilots are assigned to him. Soon, the flying school's chief instructor announces that the Europaflug contest (an air rallye from Germany via Spain to Africa and back) is scheduled to start from Bergried, and Quax together with one male and the two female trainee pilots take part, by which time Quax is finally persuaded of the women's flying abilities. Masato Odagiri, son of shipwright Takeichi Odgairi, graduates from the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy. A year later, his friend, Eiichi Hongo, is promoted to naval lieutenant. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Eiichi is in the raid as part of a Val dive bomber crew from the aircraft carrier Zuikaku. The raid is a success, but is tempered by the nonpresence of the American carrier fleet. In February 1942, the battleship Yamato is designated as Yamamoto's flagship, and Takeichi is drafted as a reservist. He is assigned to the ship as a launch pilot. Not long afterwards, the American navy launches a counterstrike in the Doolittle Raid. Following this, Yamamoto orders a massive naval strike at the American-held island of Midway, but the Japanese carrier force is met and sunk by the US carriers. Several months later, after the Guadalcanal campaign, Yamamoto is assassinated as American pilots intercept and shoot down his plane. Eiichi returns home to Japan and marries his fiancée, but is soon recalled to participate in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Off Cape Engaño, the Zuikaku is sunk, and Eiichi is among the casualties as he had given his life jacket to Shinji, Masato's younger brother, who was assigned to the ship as a navigator. Elsewhere, the Yamato, now serving as the flagship of Takeo Kurita's Center Force, withdraws from Leyte without having engaged in battle. In April 1945, the Yamato is assigned to participate in Operation Ten- Go, a suicide mission to Okinawa. Shinji has also been reassigned to serve on the battleship. Masato, now a kamikaze pilot, is also due to participate, and asks Shinji to stay with Takeichi during the battle. As the Yamato and her accompanying fleet sails down to Okinawa, it is intercepted by American planes and sunk with a heavy loss of life. Shinji and Takeichi are both killed in battle. Masato observes the sinking, while contemplating on his own death. The film ends on a scene of Eiji's wife, child, and father playing on a beach as the credits roll. ===== Munawar Saeed (Abba) is the Godfather to four young men. The five men are living in a low income apartment, sharing comical jokes in the middle of the night. Their intellect is shown through their dialogue but they seem as though they are typical proletarians in their physical appearance. In the midst of the story, violence has erupted in the city and heavy firing has started right outside on their street. Despite this raucous, they continue their jolly discussions as this kind of event had become routine for them. It was as if nothing has happened. The five men are critical and sarcastically bitter but they continue their routine inside the apartment. Suddenly, a new face appears in the story when they hear a knock on the door. A young beautiful girl (Hiba Ali as Alina) is screaming for help as she was frightened and horrified. The gentlemen allow her to be rescued in their apartment for over the night. This beautiful young girl is initially nervous but then begins to enjoy their unique sense of humor. All the young male characters have introduced themselves as brothers and sons of Abba (Godfather). Abba is a retired University Professor. The four young male characters now start trying hard to impress the girl with their individual bygone acumen (Arif Bahalim is a lawyer, Saleem Mairaj is a journalist, Adnan Shah is a student political activist and Rashid Farooqui is a businessman/Cricketer). During these interesting conversations, the girl has introduced herself as of Pakistani descent, but born and raised in Canada. She had come to visit her uncle, but because of the sudden eruption of violence, got stuck in their apartment. All 5 male characters, keep teasing each other in a unique sarcastic manner in the flavor of local political and sad satire of affairs in Pakistan. They all have interesting views on global politics as well. Abba is a moderator and keeps the young men in control. He is behaving as a true guardian and is very pleasant with the girl. Abba continues to talk about a hidden history. He keeps emphasizing the fact, the history we were taught is fabricated. Hiba Ali first confronted then started accepting the facts. The four young men come to reveal, Abba is not their biological father. They respect him as their Godfather and have complete faith in Abba. She seems highly impressed. She is single, and she has disclosed her status, and all four young men are doing their best in their individual smartness to merry her. They all try to propose her one by one, but every time, ended up fighting within each other. She is enjoying this tug of war, or perhaps can't decide to pick who? All is executed with humor, sarcasm and eloquent prose. In the last third of the film, two of the "sons" go out to search for the food in the middle of erupted violence. The story now makes a twist. The police tracked one of them (Saleem Mairaj) as he was wanted in a high crime. The police reached the apartment and surrounded the building. Abba convinced all the young men that if they were to fight back, Hiba Ali would get killed with them. They surrendered. Hiba Ali was actually a Police Spy and wanted to get information from these five men, who had been absconded - they were fugitives for a while. She disguised herself, Abba knew from the beginning, she was a spy, but he wanted to follow the rule of democracy, as all four young men had allowed her to be rescued that night. In the end, Hiba Ali comes to find, these five so called convicted fellow men, though highly intelligent were the victims of political differences. They stood against the bigotry. They stood against the establishment. They made ONE mistake: they breached the LAW. She learns from them, the law. The law, which to begin with, has been made to protect: feudalism, few families, and groups - Oligarchy. The story contains three strong messages: *Searching history is an educational process as well as of the utmost importance to find the truth, otherwise, history will be manipulated. *Democracy is defined and has been manipulated by local establishments according to the selfish needs of the oligarchy. *"Justice delayed is Justice Denied" ===== Andrew Thomas is an agent tasked with recording the violations made at an oil refinery that resides next to a suburban town. There are problems with the mare Atalante. Benningsen is surprised to see Barbara Hessling. Both know each other from earlier, and their reunion clearly shows that the last time they left each other, there were problems. Flashback. Dieter Benningsen and Barbara had met four years earlier when he had successfully worked as an obstetrician on one of their horses, Ariadne, whom she thought to be suffering from colic. The young foal is baptized by landowner Dahlen Atalante. Dahlen, who was friends with Barbara's father, gives her Atalante. The much older man seems to have (probably not only paternal) interest in the young woman. Barbara has already given Dieter her heart, but he must move to Hanover for a year to complete his veterinary studies there. Some time later, Dahlen invites Barbara to join Atalante for the Yearling Show. Also Dieter Benningsen appears there. While the guests attend the derby, Benningsen makes Barbara a marriage proposal, which she accepts. A little later, Atalante is successively trained to become a racehorse. Master jockey Hans Rönning even allows Barbara to do it herself. Finally, the first derby start for Atalante is imminent. In fact, Rönning can win the race with Atalante. As Barbara begins to devote more and more attention to her horse and racing, Benningsen is increasingly annoyed by the fact that his future wife apparently hardly knows any other topic. Benningsen announces to Barbara that they should not see each other for a while. Meanwhile, a friend of Dahlens, Evelyn Nauman, who owns the strongest competition horse with "Hannibal", tries to sow intrigue with Barbara, who decides to train Atalante herself. Finally, in a pro race to a direct comparison between Atalante and Hannibal, Atalante barely wins. Too bad luck, Atalante pulls a little later a Sehnenzerrung, so Rönning refuses to lead the battered horse in the coming, big Derby. Instead, he plans to direct Hannibal. Barbara is disappointed. In this situation, the worn-out aging jockey Konny Schmidt offers to help Barbara, who hopes to be able to come out of his lows again. He says that you have to handle Atalante just right, then he could win with her tomorrow's derby. Barbara leaves Konny on her horse, although Dieter Bennigsen had urgently advised against it. Hannibal barely wins the race because Atalante begins to lame just before the finish. Barbara realizes that she has overwhelmed her horse, who probably can not run a race anymore. Dahlen offers to stay with Atalante at his stud farm. End of the flashback. Again in the present time. Benningsen and Barbara spent the night with Atalante, who gave birth to a foal. Dieter and Barbara decide to try it again. ===== is a lonely and pessimistic middle school student living in with his grandfather, an umbrella maker, and father. His helicopter chases after a scientist named Dr. Harrison who escapes by jumping into a river. 12 Years later, a young boy named Adam Harrison (Pappy Faulkner), son of Dr. Harrison, lives with his mother Shelly but keeps being harassed by the local bullies Tony (Yuri Lowenthal), Dale (Nicholas Marj), and Garcia (Barry D. Buckner), being unjustly judged by other students, and being the mutual crush of a kindhearted girl named Emma (Shylo Summer). But over time he also notices that strange things start happening to him, like his feet growing bigger so his toes stick out of his shoes, and his hair growing right back over night even after his mother gave it a complete chop. After discovering not only the fact that his father is alive, but also his current location from a box his mother Shelly (Marieve Herington) had kept hidden, Adam sets out on an epic and daring quest to uncover the mystery behind his long-lost dad only to find out that he is none other than the legendary Bigfoot (Christopher L. Parsons). He has been hiding deep in the forest for years to protect himself and his family from Eastman who is eager to run scientific experiments with his special DNA. What neither of them knew was that a cowboy man driving a truck had nearly run over Adam. Dr. Harrison saved Adam, but the cowboy man got some footage of it, and put it in the newspaper. Adam discovers that he too is gifted with superpowers similar to his dad like having large feet, supersonic hearing, running at incredible speeds, and speaking to animals like Tina the squirrel (Sandy Fox), Trapper the raccoon (Joe Ochman), his wife Weecha (Laila Berzins), Wilbur the bear (Michael Sorich), and Steve the woodpecker (Joe J. Thomas). Meanwhile, Eastman heard about the sighting, and although reluctant follows the traces to Bigfoot. In order to draw out Adam, Eastman arranges for his mother's car to be intercepted by his men. The men roam the forest to search for more evidence. After Adam is apprehended, he sends them to a false site, where they fail greatly. This results using Adam as bait to lure Bigfoot (father), ending with Bigfoot being captured. Eastman and his scientist Dr. Billingsley (Alan Shearman) begin their experiment on Bigfoot. The hair sample is tested on Dr. Billingsley's usual intern (Brody Hessin) who asks Dr. Billingsley to sign his volunteer paper (a running gag through part of the film). The sample causes the intern to grow extra- ordinarily long hair all over his body. With the help of the animals, Adam rescues his father, leading to the destruction of HairCo. facility. Eastman is tranquilized by Shelly as Bigfoot states that he is done with hiding. Dr. Billingsley crawls out of the wreckage as his intern tries to get him to sign his volunteer paper. Tired of hiding, Bigfoot returns home and the animals have taken to living with the family. A magazine cover shows that Wallace Eastman has been arrested for his illegal activities. On his way to school, Adam's bullies attempt to haze him again. Having gone on his journey, Adam calmly tells them that he's finally had enough and kindly asks to be left alone. When they refuse to comply, Adam summons his animal buddies who scare them into leaving him alone while secretly dismantling their bikes and skateboard to make them crash to further punish them for their previous harassing of Adam which the latter sees and laughs at. Adam dismisses his friends as Emma spots the scene and asks about it. Adam asks if she would walk with him to school and she agrees while he begins to explain his life to her. =====
