They discover one of the rifles in the armory is missing, as well as body armor and grenades, confirming someone in the group is the gunman. They resolve to stay in the warehouse all night until they can find out which of them carried out the shooting; none of the members will admit. The group's prime suspects are Morris, a former member of the Aryan Brotherhood, and Keating, a young man who never speaks. While Beckmann mans the radio equipment and a fish tracker to see if anyone is approaching the warehouse, Gannon speaks to Noah, who he knows is an undercover officer assigned to the militia, and resolves to keep him safe through the investigation. Gannon first interrogates Morris, who admits to the shooting as revenge for the police covering up the rape and killing of his daughter, but the militia's de facto leader Ford intervenes, telling Gannon that Morris is lying to bring attention to his daughter's murder. Ford suspects Noah, who he threatens to kill if he doesn't admit to the shooting. Beckmann hears over the radio that more militia shootings are taking place, inspired by the initial shooting, and attempts to broadcast that their militia has nothing to do with the shooting, to no avail. Keating finally speaks to Gannon, saying he doesn't speak because he prefers to be alone; Gannon reads from Keating's journal, in which he professes a desire to shoot up his school, and Keating neither confirms or denies that he carried out the shooting. Gannon decides that he needs to die in order to give the police a scapegoat, citing an incident where he was forced to kill his partner in order to maintain his cover and give the police a reason to arrest members of the Ku Klux Klan, but before he can shoot himself, Keating admits to the shooting and confesses over the radio. However, the police believe the confession to be false, mentioning that they've received multiple confessions in the last hour. Ford believes Gannon is protecting Noah, who he feels connected with through their mutual history as police officers, and strings Noah up from a noose in the warehouse. However, the execution is interrupted by the arrival of a squad of police cars. Gannon and Noah both exit the warehouse and surrender to the police, as Gannon tells Ford to tell the police that they both carried out the shooting. The rest of the militia confront the police, armed with rifles and wearing body armor, but as soon as one of them makes a move, the police open fire, killing all of the members except the surrendering Gannon and Noah. Noah then admits that the police faked the shootings to get the militia to distrust each other and give his squad a reason to eliminate the militia. Gannon almost shoots Noah, but relents and gives him his gun, letting him walk away. The police ask Gannon if he wants to rejoin them; the film cuts to black before he decides. ===== ===== Jerry Garfield, engineer-navigator, Graham Hutchins, a biologist, and George Coleman, a scientist, have travelled to Venus on the spaceship Morning Star, and are exploring, in a scout car, the surface of Venus. Garfield reminds the others that "wherever life has the slightest chance of surviving, you'll find it. This is the only chance it's ever had on Venus." Garfield and Hutchins leave the car and, wearing their thermosuits, climb the escarpment. They follow a dry river bed and reach a lake, the first free water found on Venus. What seems to be a horizontal patch of black rock at the edge of the lake is moving. The plant, or colony of plants, seems to be approaching them, but retreats when they move forward, a reaction to the heat expelled from the thermosuits' refrigeration units. Hutchins takes samples and photographs of the moving carpet, and speculates on its nature. They erect a pressurized tent and relax; "the true wonder and importance of the discovery forced itself upon their minds". There is a short final section, like an epilogue, with a detached viewpoint: After Garfield and Hutchins have left, the organism reaches the abandoned encampment and absorbs the organic material from the human waste, cigarette ends and paper cups; bacteria and viruses begin to kill it. "Beneath the clouds of Venus, the story of Creation was ended." ===== Kalki always dreams of being a pigeon racer. He falls in love with Pari. She learns that she has lost her longstanding job in the house band at Glasgow's Grand Ole Opry, as the manager refuses to employ a convicted criminal. Rose-Lynn's mother, Marion, who has been caring for Rose-Lynn's young children, encourages her to give up her music dream to focus on more practical careers and taking care of her family. Rose-Lynn takes a cleaning job for Susannah's large house. Susannah's children overhear Rose-Lynn singing while she is cleaning and inform their mother, who confides that she is also a country music fan. Rose- Lynn asks Susannah for money to travel to Nashville and try to make it as a musician, but Susannah declines. However, she does get in contact with BBC Radio presenter, Bob Harris, and sends him a recording of Rose-Lynn's singing; he offers to meet with her if she will come to London. Rose-Lynn appears before a judge to ask him to lift her probationary 7pm to 7am curfew so she can travel, and he agrees. She travels by train to London and sits in on a live performance by the visiting Ashley McBryde. Harris encourages her to keep performing and figure out what she has to say so she can start writing her own songs. Susannah offers Rose-Lynn a performing gig at her upcoming house party, where she intends to ask her guests to contribute to Rose-Lynn's Nashville fund in lieu of gifts. Rose-Lynn asks Marion to watch the children in the week leading up to the party so she can rehearse, but Marion declines to cancel her holiday plans, so she is forced to shuttle her kids around to various friends who agree to watch them. The day before the performance, Susannah's husband gets Rose-Lynn alone and tells her he knows about her criminal conviction and she is to stop working for them after her performance. Rose-Lynn's son breaks his arm while playing unattended at home, and the doctors at the hospital say they cannot put a cast on until after Rose-Lynn's planned performance. Marion arrives to help and Rose-Lynn begs her to stay and watch her son so she can get to the party; Marion agrees but criticises her strongly for neglecting her family. Rose-Lynn rushes to the party to perform but, once on stage, breaks down immediately. She confesses to Susannah her guilt for her criminal behaviour and not being there for her children, and her belief that her conviction and having children at a young age are permanent barriers to her musical dream, then leaves the party. Rose-Lynn instead gets a job as a waitress and dedicates herself to her kids. Some time later, Marion, having seen that Rose-Lynn has accepted her responsibilities, presents her with a large sum of money she has saved, enough for her to travel to Nashville. Because of this, Tiny longs to be like Dr. Owl, the protector of the forest. Likewise, he also longs to see his bunny friends again. While on a nightly patrol, Dr. Owl spies something odd- a car driving up to a run-down castle perched on a nearby mountain. Curious and concerned, Dr. Owl sneaks in for a closer look. What he finds concerns him- a wealthy man named Mr. Abbadon is hiring local poachers- the formerly noteworthy Boris E. Ratso and his dimwitted aide, Mr. Phineas Pike -to capture all of the forest animals. While Abbadon's motives aren't clear, he does stress heavily that the animals are to be unharmed and brought back alive. Worried for everyone, Dr. Owl contacts Tiny and tells him that the ranger must be informed of what has transpired. Alas, despite his best efforts, Tiny is the only one who sees the poachers as a threat (whilst Angie and her grandpa are completely hoodwinked by the poachers). Thankfully, Angie's grandfather isn't entirely fooled and decides to keep an eye on the two; unfortunately, he can't be on duty forever, which allows the poachers to begin their work. To their frustration, Dr. Owl stops their work before it can begin, giving Ratso a case of hypothermia in the process. Later, Mr. Pike convinces Boris to catch the owl, too, thus earning them more money; alas, Dr. Owl doesn't quite fall for their tactics, but ends up captured all the same. Sending Ailsworth- a local mouse -to inform the rest of the forest as to what happened, Dr. Owl is carted away to the castle whilst the poachers recover from the past evening's failures. Gaining the aid of Ms. Magpie, the forest gossip, Ailsworth is able to inform the forest of the incoming threat. Unfortunately, with the owl gone, morale is at a severe low. Of course, all is not lost- Ailsworth is able to convince the animals that they are all "someones in particular" and that, so long as they remember that, they can succeed. Inspired by Ailsworth, the forest animals all move ahead with separate plans to keep their families safe; the rabbits, however, decide to enact a bold plan- to sneak in the castle to save Mr. Owl. Receiving some unexpected help from the hawk that attacked J.C, the bunnies go to the castle (making sure to inform their parents via a bug messenger) under cover of darkness. Alas, their plan goes up in smoke when a pack of weasels- the pets of Mr. Pike -surround them in the prison room where Dr. Owl is held. Learning of their children's daring plan, Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit are naturally concerned heavily. The two rush off to get the help of Tiny and the ranger, but find Tiny alone (courtesy of a trick from Mr. Ratso). With no other choice, Tiny (who receives aid from the hawk) makes off for the castle. Finding that the weasels are only loyal to Mr. Pike because of the fine meat he provides, the two heroes rain the stuff down on them (oddly, it continues long after the bag has emptied). Tiny quickly finds his adoptive family and Mr. Owl and sets them free; unfortunately, the majority of the weasels still stay loyal to the poachers and wake them just as the rabbits escape. A lengthy chase ensues, but the bunnies and Tiny are able to outwit Mr. Pike and his ravenous pets. In the woods, Mr. Ratso is trying to catch the animals quickly, as the deadline is soon upon him. Fortunately, his attempts to capture a moose continue to blow up in his face. He comes very close to catching one when he feigns defeat, but Dr. Owl quickly arrives to aid the moose. Losing his patience, Mr. Ratso has Mr. Pike help him with one last trap- a net intended to capture all the animals in one fell swoop. Thankfully, the plan comes undone and the poachers end up caught in their own trap, arrested alongside Mr. Abbadon, who Tiny ends up saving when Ratso goes turncoat on his former employer. With the villains all rounded up, Angie's grandfather sends them off to court for their respective trials; while Ratso and Pike are incarcerated, Mr. Abbadon gets out relatively unscathed, perhaps suggesting a lighter side to him. The film concludes with a massive party back at Tiny's home with all the forest animals present and happily gorging themselves on food. ===== ===== Jake (Andy Samberg) and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) investigate the murder of a young man. With this evidence, they finally manage to catch the killer. She was in the process of breaking up with her abusive husband, who is serving time in prison. Her estate is being looked after by her older sister Casey, who will follow Ally's will exactly as written, which means everything goes to the estranged husband. Among Ally's effects, Seth and Nole find a lottery ticket worth $30 million. If they tell Casey about the ticket, the money will go to a wife-beater whom Ally was about to abandon rather than those more deserving - themselves, but also Ally's charity. They cannot pass it off as their own ticket, as it is covered in Ally's characteristic doodles. The solution is obvious: sacrifice one life, Casey's, to save thousands: "If we give a third of the money to an African charity, it'll be like we're saving 40,000 lives just for sacrificing one." Both agree that they cannot possibly commit murder, but find it amusing to consider the possibility, and how it could be done perfectly. Seth and Nole start to scheme, jokingly at first, but eventually they "get real," concluding that murdering Casey is, paradoxically, the "right thing". Seeking unwitting permission from Casey herself, they ask her if she would give up her life if it meant saving thousands of other lives; she answers: "In a heartbeat." Accepting that they will live with the burden of guilt for sacrifcing an innocent person, even for good reasons, for the rest of their lives, they come up with a plan so that Casey dies with little or no suffering, one of them distracting her with a story about Ally while the other moves in for the kill. As part of the plan, they invite her over regularly, entertaining and getting to know her as they did Ally. They practice and make a few aborted attempts, but each time the one who must do the deed fails to go through with it, unable to find it in himself to commit the murder. The longer it goes on, the more they get to know her, and the more difficult the task becomes. From time to time, the pair also have to put up with Andrew, their overbearing boss, who owns a factory farm. He graphically describes the killing of terrified pigs, which upsets them, partly because they both eat meat. Later, when his farm has been the target of animal rights activists, he shares video of pigs in the slaughterhouse which horrifies them even more. One day, Casey reveals that she is dying of ovarian cancer, so the pair think do not need to go through with the plan. But in fact, there is a time limit on turning in the lottery ticket, so it leaves them no better off. Moreover, it provides another justification as it turns the murder into a form of mercy killing: they can spare her a slow, agonizing death, killing her quickly, listening to her favourite piece of music, in the company of people who love her, her two new best friends. On the chosen night, everything having gone according to plan, at the last moment they try to give Casey (and themselves) a way out, telling her about the lottery ticket, pleading with her not to let it go to Ally's charity: "Is it possible that what is right isn't what you thought it was?" She considers, but seems unlikely to concede, her two friends and would-be murderers visibly conflicted and in emotional turmoil. Camille Sullivan at TIFF, September 2011 After a fade to black, it is revealed that Seth and Nole did not commit the murder, but the lottery winnings did go to Ally's charity. In the flashback segments, a pregnant Michonne and Daryl look for any trace of Rick for closure, but only discover his revolver. Daryl explains his choice to go live on his own; Michonne returns to Alexandria alone. In a later time at Alexandria, Michonne watches as some strangers arrive and discovers among them her old college friend, Jocelyn. Michonne vouches for her to the others and brings Jocelyn in for medical care, but Jocelyn urges them to recover the children she was protecting at a nearby building; they safely recover the children. That night, Jocelyn explains to Michonne that all of the adults of her group have died, but the children have become skillful hunters. Meanwhile, all of Jocelyn's children, including Judith and the other Alexandrian ones, enjoy a bonfire. When morning comes, the Alexandrians find that Jocelyn and the children have all fled, killing at least one Alexandrian, kidnapping Judith and the other children, and stealing much of the community's food and medical supplies before fleeing into the sewers. Daryl joins up with Michonne to track them down. Michonne laments about how she trusted Jocelyn, but Daryl convinces her that it wasn't her fault. They eventually find one of the children sneaking around a school and give chase, but they are both lured into a trap by Jocelyn and the children. Sometime later, Michonne and Daryl wake up bloodied and tied to a pipe, and realize that Jocelyn has brainwashed the children to be vicious and nearly feral. They are then painfully branded with an iron X, a sign of strength according to Jocelyn. When they are left alone, Daryl is able to help them escape and they decide to split up to look for the Alexandria children, who are forced into a trailer outside. In the hallway, one child slashes Michonne across her bloated stomach, with little regard to the infant she carries. Michonne eventually finds an exit, but is immediately beaten over and over with a wooden plank by Jocelyn. However, Michonne summons the strength to stab Jocelyn in her leg and chest, killing her. Michonne then convinces the children that they can all return to Alexandria, but Mitchell, second-in- command of Jocelyn's group, instructs the children to kill the Alexandrians. She is forced to kill Mitchell and begs the kids to stop, but they all refuse and charge towards Michonne. With no other options, Michonne is forced to kill them one by one, much to her anguish. After the massacre, Michonne and Daryl recover the children back to Alexandria. Following these events, Michonne decides to no longer allow strangers in Alexandria. As a result, relationships between Alexandria and the other communities break down. In the present, Aaron alerts Michonne of Daryl's presence at the Alexandria gates, including Connie, Henry and Lydia. Daryl vouches for Lydia to convince Michonne to let them take shelter. They stay long enough for Henry to get the medical care he needs, but Michonne refuses to provide them an escort to the Kingdom. Later, Judith talks to Daryl, disappointed about how Michonne has been acting. That evening, Daryl, Connie, Henry and Lydia take off to return to the Kingdom, with Michonne seeing them off. In the morning, Michonne finds Judith has left on her own, having taken Rick's pistol. She accosts Negan about if he knows where Judith went, but he instead tells her that Judith is trying to follow what Carl had suggested for the communities and upset that Michonne refuses to let anyone in. Michonne then goes racing off on her own and eventually catches up with Judith as she is surrounded by walkers; the two fight off the walkers. As Michonne takes care of Judith's non-fatal wounds, Judith tells Michonne that she remembers witnessing her kill Jocelyn and her children in order to rescue her, something Michonne was not aware of and had not talked about with her. Michonne realizes what Judith's concern has been and agrees that they should help protect their allies. As things become more serious, Margie reveals their relationship to Scott, who is disturbed that Ray, like Stan, is a firefighter. Ray takes Scott to a Staten Island Yankees game with his co- workers, but finds it difficult to talk to Scott, who argues that firefighters should not have families because of the pain that is caused by their deaths. Margie and Ray tell Scott that they expect him to move out of the house, which upsets him. He gradually bonds with Ray and the other firefighters, who tell him stories about his father, humanizing him and helping Scott to accept his death. Ray learns from Harold that Scott is a talented artist, and agrees to let Scott tattoo his back as practice. One day, a man shows up at the firehouse with an abdominal wound while Scott is there alone. Scott brings him to the hospital, where Ray arrives, using his firefighter connections to get the man the help he needs. After that he takes her to an abandoned field where he beheads her and sets her body on fire. Later, the film focuses on Swapna (Taapsee Pannu) who is a single young woman and also a talented game designer. She has a fear of the darkness, and also suffers from post-traumatic stress more so known as 'anniversary reaction', a condition, which triggers unsettling feelings around the anniversary of a traumatic event. For Swapna, it is the horrific memory of her rape that took place on last New Year's Eve. It's her second time that she suffers from the uncontrollable feeling whenever she enters darkness; the first time was one year ago, the following days after she was raped. Her symptom starts when she feels pain at her wrist, where there is a tattoo she got one year ago. As she got the tattoo too long ago, it was explained technically impossible by a doctor that the pain was caused by it, but only she knows there's connection between the tattoo and her miserable memory. Her family have a traditional mind that think decent girls shouldn't have tattoo or go out in the night; she didn't listen, and was later raped. Instead of encouraging her afterward, her parents kept blaming the tragedy on her, for having a tattoo and going out in the night. Because of this, she leaves her parents, never contacted them since, and leads a secluded life with Kalamma (Vinodhini Vaidyanathan), a housemaid who stays with her. Her only solace is her love for gaming. Swapna later learns that her tattoo ink was mixed with a stranger's ash, because of a mistake by the tattoo artist. She begins to have some bizarre dreams and finds that the girl Amutha (Sanchana Natarajan), a cancer survivor, was an unfortunate victim of a serial killer. Amutha's mother tells Swapna that her daughter will always be with her and want her to fight. The same serial killer that killed many young women in the city, including Amutha, finally targets Swapna, who is now temporarily wheel-chaired due to an attempted suicide. The killer kills Mr Anwar, the security of her house, and Kalamma, and finally Swapna. But before Swapna is killed, she is surprised to find that she has three the same tattoo pattern on her wrist, which she had only one. Swapna wakes up from the "nightmare", but finds now only two tattoo patterns are left on her wrist. She now realizes that she was not killed in a dream, but it's Amutha's spirit, who wants Swapna to fight, that gave her three lives, just like video games she's often playing. And now Swapna has lost one life, with two remaining. To avoid the same mistake that got them all killed in her first life, Swapna, who is now using her second life, call the police and stay in the house with Kalamma to wait for the police. Police arrive in time and shoots the killer before the latter kills Swapna and after, however, kills Kalamma. She seems to be saved and is taken by the police to the station. But on their way, their vehicle is exploded by a bomb set by the killers. It is now revealed that there was not only one killer that was trying to kill her, but three. Swapna now is using her third, also the last life to fight against the killers. Encouraged by Amutha's spirit, Swapna conquers her fear for darkness. She does not turn on the light to draw the killers' attention. Swapna and Kalamma manages to kill the first killer by setting fire on him. The second killer almost kills the both but is also taken down by them. The third killer beats Kalamma to unconsciousness and confronts Swapna, who manages to stab him to death with a piece of broken mirror. ===== ===== A group of 15-year-old boys from the neighbourhood Rione Sanità in Naples, dreaming to gain power and easy money, makes their way onto the city's world of crime. If anyone but her mother touches her face, she lashes out – a consequence of a childhood trauma in which, according to the social worker, nappies were pressed into her face; this prompts other children to provoke her and set off an outburst of rage. She has been repeatedly suspended from her special school and no foster family or residential group can tolerate her for long. As a so-called “system crasher” she seems likely to fall through the framework of the German support system for children and youths. Benni just yearns to live with her mother again. However, it is also too much for Bianca, who is afraid of her own daughter.Profil at berlinale.de (retrieved 31 January 2019). She is also mother to two more young children and is living with the abusive Jens, from whom she is unable to part. In one scene Benni runs away and hitch-hikes home to find her small siblings alone, unsupervised and watching horror films. Showing she can be caring, she switches over to a children’s channel against the wishes of her brother and prepares some food. When her mother returns with her current partner, whom she has for some time wanted to leave, Benni is at first overjoyed to see her but then explodes and with a vase attacks first Jens and then her mother who calls the police. Jens strikes Benni and shuts her in a wardrobe until the officers arrive. In another effort, the dedicated Frau Bafané from youth services hires an anger- management trainer for Benni. Michael Heller, a boxing fan who has worked with male delinquents, is engaged to accompany her to school. After further violent outbursts, at his own suggestion, he takes her away to a lodge in the woods where he has previously taken the young offenders. This may be stretching “outdoor education”, but Benni goes along with him and he is able to engage with her. Benni sees him as a father figure, at one point even calling him “Papa”, which Micha will not allow, lest he lose his professional distance. At the end of the visit, Benni clings to Micha and wants to stay with him. Micha, however, has his own family and would like to give up the case, but Frau Bafané persuades him to continue, as there are so few people on Benni’s side. Benni’s mother tells her and the social workers that she has left her belligerent partner for good and will take Benni back home, but when she arrives at one of the few case meetings she actually attends, she goes back on her word and then just runs away from the meeting. Frau Bafané breaks down in tears as she has to tell Benni of yet another disappointment, and now the child comforts the adult. Placement with a previous foster mother also fails when Benni seriously injures a foster child already there in a fit of rage. As a short-term measure, Benni is returned to the emergency accommodation where she had previously been. There are no specialist boarding schools for children as young as Benni and a stay abroad in Kenya is suggested as a last resort. Benni flees to Micha and his family, who are prepared to let her stay for one night. In the morning, while the parents are still sleeping, Benni goes into their bedroom and lifts the baby from his cot, takes him downstairs and carefully gives him breakfast. When the baby unwittingly touches Benni’s face, she makes no objection. On waking and coming to the kitchen, Elli, the baby’s mother, tries to take him back and Benni becomes aggressive. She refuses to let the baby go and locks herself in the bathroom. Micha breaks the door open, but Benni has fled through the window, leaving the baby unharmed. She runs in her socks and nightclothes into the nearby wood, where she collapses into confused dreams. Hours later she is found hypothermic and taken to hospital. She is to be sent to Kenya, but at the airport she runs out of security. The last shot of the film is of Benni as she leaps into the air, smiling. Bred to be a crisis commando, he was fired and exiled to Mars after the failure of a mission and has since worked as muscle-for-hire. When United Nations officials come to Mars to audit political corruption, Veil gets embroiled in violent complications and political conspiracies. The book begins shortly after the protagonist, Hakan Veil, has woken up from his hibernation and is undergoing a "running hot" phenomenon where hibernoids feel an enhanced form of perception as well as increased physical aptitude thanks to their metabolic adjustments and augmentations. The first chapter involves Veil approaching a club owner who had wronged a friend of his at some point in the past and assaulting him with his club security. His first person exposition on his running hot state, the gear the bouncers are using and the jury-rigged equipment he brought with him reveals he has been on Mars for some time now and has previously taken side gigs before doing part-time work for a woman named Gradual within the local Triad. Afterwards, Veil is apprehended by police officer, Nikki Chakana, and taken into custody for his crime. Her beleaguered attitude and their first name basis continues to imply more of Veil's history with the locals. While in holding, Veil hears word of an audit from the Colonial Oversight Initiative (COLIN for short), and Chakana is tasked with escorting a diplomat from Earth named Madison Madekwe. Too worried about the local crime to care about some diplomatic issue from a distant, loathed oversight body, Chakana cuts a deal with Veil to let him go as long as he acts as Madison's bodyguard during her stay. Veil meets Madison as she arrives on Mars and proceeds to escort her around much of Valles Marineris (Mariner Valley) before reaching a hotel. While the two chat about COLIN, hypertrippers (Earth citizens touring Mars) and the financial issues of Mars, Madison reveals she's actually there investigating a lottery fraud. A key element of the story is a planetary lottery. Turns out life on Mars is so terrible that many people turn to crime to get the cash for a trip back to Earth (A Ticket Home, as many will say in the story). The lottery is a legitimate way to send people back to Earth, set up by COLIN mostly to keep the population holding onto a shred of hope. Madison reveals there was a lottery winner named Pablo Torres (A.K.A. Pavel Torres throughout the book) who has gone missing, and COLIN is worried about some kind of fraud being connected to their lottery by his killer. Before retiring for the night, Madison kisses Veil in the elevator, however they decide against a sexual encounter. Veil, not requiring sleep outside of his capsule, decides to get a head start on the Torres investigation. He contacts a few friends of his around the Valley including a hacker known as The Goat God, and discovers Torres is either dead or thoroughly 'unpersoned' by another power he might have upset, though the only concrete lead he can acquire is the name of Torres' girlfriend, Nina. After questioning her, sleeping with her and then going home, Veil is assaulted by a team of unknown assassins with military equipment. He survives and meets Chakana's response team. While she's concerned with him, she reveals Madison was abducted in the early morning from a travel terminal. Hakan Veil does the legwork on Madison's abduction. Captured footage shows a team that must be military or corporate trained, according to Veil. Gradual tells Veil she doesn't know how they got military hardware as there's no smuggling going on on Mars then, something she clarifies to mean there's no smuggling at all on the entire planet. The Goat God talks with Veil about how he and Hakan are disposable hardware with histories in Indenture Compliance, going after escaped Indentured Servants for the company that employed them, however can only tell Veil so much about the footage he has already acquired and dissected himself. The Goat God does explain however that the team was using shock and terror tactics to mask their clean extraction job. During his investigation, he meets with another old friend who's retired now, but married to one of the colony overseers under the main colony director, Mulholland. It's apparent to both of them that Mulholland is corrupt, however laugh at the irony that back in the day they would have been on his side. While Veil is initially suspicious, he comes to the conclusion his retired friend can't do much to hurt him. After chasing a few leads and interrogating some cultists about Torres, he is attacked by a corporate clean up squad out in Gingrich Field; they're are remarkably sloppy and one of them is killed by her own team's incompetence while Veil just watches. When his investigation begins running out of leads, The Goat God reaches him with a name: Hidalgo. The Goat God explains to Veil the rough history of Hidalgo as a big shot gangster back on Earth who's been spotted on Mars and is the biggest suspect left for Madison's abduction. As Veil goes to track him down, he is captured by Allauca, the wife of his retired friend, and some of her henchmen. She tells him Torres really did die and his death was simply a tragic accident, not a part of her and Mulholland's plan. After staging a violent escape, killing her henchmen and Allauca herself, Veil stays with Nina for a while before she casually mentions Hidalgo in conversation, revealing she knows him personally and has for some time. She helps him get in touch with Hidalgo, then the two men begin piecing together the puzzle. Hidalgo reveals Torres' death was, in fact, an accident. He tells Veil that he and Torres were attempting to rob a pharmaceutical office to acquire a set of cosmetics made on Earth, shipped to Mars and being packaged as "Mars Quality Craftsmanship," to increase the cost of it while keeping the costs as low as on Earth. During the heist, Torres simply slipped and fell from the roof of the building to his death. Veil eventually discovers Hidalgo has been setting the ground for a COLIN military take-over of Mars to put an end to Mulholland's corporate exploitation and corruption of the colony. Madison herself is fine, she wasn't even abducted, but was a COLIN plant who let herself be taken by Hidalgo's team to justify a COLIN intervention as their diplomat was taken. After a sexual encounter with Madison, Veil, opposed to both Mulholland's corruption and COLIN's military oversight, devises a plan to get rid of both of them. He kills Hidalgo and Madison while the Goat God begins hacking their naval network to sabotage their operation. Gradual is killed by Hidalgo's men. Veil is captured and brought to Mulholland by Chakana for numerous accounts of murder and crimes against the colony, however Chakana has a change of heart and frees Veil before helping him kill Mulholland and his security. Veil is heavily injured by the end of events and wakes up several days later in a hospital under Chakana's guard. He recovers and has something of a celebration with the Goat God, though struggles to be a social being and lets his friend take the spotlight. At the end of novel, Veil leaves the bar and walks home in the rain. ===== Purl, a humanoid pink-colored ball of yarn, begins an entry-level position at a company named B.R.O. Capital. Its theme focuses on a social structure that is based on superstition, prejudice and injustice to women. Satyabati, the housewife protagonist, rebels against the patriarchal world in which she and many of the women lived, taking an active role in standing up to the people whose behavior is one of keeping women in their traditional place of inferiority. From childhood Satya is outspoken. She points out the unfairness of the society in a very facile way. The protagonist of the story is the handsome Ramkali Chatterjee, who, sometime towards the final decades of the 19th century, combines the functions of priest and physician of the traditional Ayurveda system of medicine in an isolated Bengali village, Five of the women of his extended family — Dinatarini, Kashiswari, Shankari, Shibjaya and Mokshada are widows. It is on them that the burden falls, from dawn to dusk, of attending to all the practical problems of running a home. They are obliged to adhere strictly to the rules governing widowhood, rules which however they reinforce by insisting other female members of the family learn to observe in a society dominated by men. Of the other women, just one, the young Satyabati, defies custom, and though her father treats her manner of bucking the system indulgently, the other women rebuke her. Ramkali takes her on as a student. Meanwhile one of Ramkali's nephews, Rashbehari, following the obligations imposed on a kulin Brahmin, is obliged to undertake a second marriage, which his first wife, Sarada vigorously protests by threatening to kill herself. A s a result, her husband refrains from sleeping with the second wife. To top the sequence off, Ramnkali's own house is partially destroyed by fire. On her reaching puberty, Satyabati, now married to Nabakumar, is transferred to the home of her parents-in-law where she is treated mercilessly by the mother-in-law. Her husband, who has enlightened views thanks to his teacher Bhabatosh,, asks Ramkali to take her away in order to avoid her dying by torture. But, Satyabati prefers to stay on a fight for her rights, no matter how much abuse and maltreatment is handed out to her. When her husband falls ill, she manages, now the mother of two children, to have him treated by a European doctor who manages to pull him through his illness. She then manoeuvers a job for Nabakumar in Calcutta, determined by the move out of the village to secure a good modern education for her sons, while she too begins a secret life as teacher in a girl’s school where she encounters Shankari and her illegitimate daughter. Shankari, working as a cook for a wealthy family, is shocked by being recognized, commits suicide, leaving her daughter Suhasini an orphan. The men of that wealthy household customarily rape their servants, being abetted in this by the other women in their group, and Satyabati manages to save her by taking her away and putting her in a school where she too develops a strong personality. Nabakumar dislikes his wife’s philanthropic assistance to people outside their closed family, however. This outlook is shared by their sons. On the day of her sixteenth birthday, Enola awakens to find that her mother has disappeared, leaving behind only some birthday gifts. She rushes to the train station to meet her brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock, who fail to recognize her at first, not having seen her in many years. Sherlock finds her to be an intelligent girl, whereas Mycroft finds her troublesome. As her legal guardian, Mycroft intends to send her away to a finishing school run by the stern Miss Harrison. The group decides to split up to look for any survivors. That night, Daryl, Michonne, Carol, and Yumiko are attacked by walkers, and take them out one by one until the Whisperers surround them. Beta emerges from the trees and tells them to drop their weapons. "You just had to give me the girl," he growls at Daryl, telling him that deal is now off. Later, at the Whisperers' new camp, Alpha, now out of disguise, joins her people, and approaches Daryl and company, who are now tied to a tree. After announcing that her daughter is no longer a concern, Alpha takes out a shotgun and tells Daryl to come with her alone. At dawn, Alpha forces Daryl to the top of a cliff where a gargantuan horde of walkers and Whisperers walk beneath them. She tells him that his friends at the camp are fine and that she has marked off a line which is the extent of their lands, but the next time his people cross into her land she'll release the horde into theirs. Daryl asks if she killed Lydia, and Alpha tells him that she didn't kill her and doubts that Daryl can protect her. He tells her that she's wrong and leaves, and reunites with his friends. Back in her camp, Alpha, in private, begins to tear up over the loss of her daughter. However, a Whisperer accidentally witnesses her crying. In response, Alpha winds up killing the Whisperer by stabbing him in the neck, making sure no one ever sees her being weak. As Daryl's group works their way back to the Kingdom, they find a beaten and bloody Siddiq tied to a tree. Siddiq is untied and points them to a nearby hill. To their horror, they find a line of ten decapitated heads on pikes made up of Ozzy, Alek, D.J., Frankie, Tammy Rose, Rodney, Addy, Enid, Tara, and Henry, meant to signify Alpha's territory boundary. Later, in the Kingdom, Siddiq addresses the community to deliver the tragic news. He explains how they were taken by the Whisperers, and that Alpha left him alive to tell a story of the "evil" that happened and to drive the communities apart again. Instead, Siddiq tells a very different story: Before the end, the prisoners were found by Ozzy, Alek and D.J., who gave them the chance to fight back. The prisoners fought like hell to the end, protecting each other like family even though some of them didn't even know each other, taking down several Whisperers. Though they failed in the end, they died heroes which is how Siddiq wants them to be remembered and honored. Sometime later, Daryl and Lydia return to the border. Lydia leaves the necklace Henry made for her on the ground by the pike that once held Henry's head. As the two walk away, snow flurries begin to fall. ===== Several months after the fair massacre, winter has arrived and the Kingdom has fallen due to burst pipes, rot, and fires that have consumed multiple buildings across the community, and is unable to keep up its infrastructure. Ezekiel makes the decision to abandon the Kingdom, assembling a large caravan of the remaining survivors to seek out better shelter at the Hilltop, though not before he broadcasts their situation via radio to anyone who might be listening; Daryl, Michonne, and Yumiko help to escort them. They discuss the Hilltop's issues of leadership following Tara's death, noting that Maggie has opted to stay with Georgie and her group after sending her several requests to return. After dealing with rogue walkers, Ezekiel tells Daryl that he wants a fresh start with Carol at the Hilltop, stating "it would be easier if it was just us." Daryl looks at him in thought and asks if that is also what Carol wants. Meanwhile, Lydia wanders into the forest and finds a walker half-buried in ice. She takes off her glove while crying and offers her hand to the walker to commit suicide, but stops when Carol appears and follows her back to the group. With the storm building up and nowhere close to a waypoint, Michonne decides to take the group to the abandoned Sanctuary. The abandoned factory provides shelter from the storm, but it becomes clear that they do not have the supplies to wait it out. Reviewing maps, they recognize that if they cross the boundary to the Whisperers' land and traverse a frozen river, they can quickly reach a safe waypoint within a day. Using the cover of the storm, the Kingdom's group passes the pikes into Alpha's territory, finding only frozen walkers along the way, and arrive at a river that has been frozen over. Carol goes looking for Lydia, who has disappeared, while the rest deal with rising walkers buried in the snow. She eventually catches up to Lydia, who believes she's to blame for their situation and feels she can't stay with them. Since she can't go back to her mother, Lydia asks Carol to kill her, but Carol refuses Lydia's request and tells her that she is not weak. The group eventually make it to the waypoint and soon reach the Hilltop the next day. There, Carol tells Ezekiel that she plans to go with Daryl back to Alexandria and subsequently breaks up with him. She attempts to give his ring back, but he insists she keep it, telling her he will always love her. Daryl, Michonne, Carol, Lydia, and a few others prepare to depart and continue on to Alexandria, leaving Ezekiel in charge of the Hilltop. At Alexandria, Eugene meets with Gabriel and Rosita to report on the storm. With the approaching storm taking out their solar power, Gabriel concocts a plan to group up next to large fireplaces in the church and realizes they'll have to free Negan from his cell so he doesn't freeze; the residents take shelter in the church. There, Negan antagonizes Gabriel over Siddiq and Rosita's unborn child. Eugene later discovers that the fireplace in the church is blocked off and cannot be used, and so they decide that they need to relocate to Aaron's house. They all tie a rope around themselves and head out into the blizzard. As they cross through the windy snowfall at sub- freezing temperatures, Judith hears Dog barking in the distance and chases after him, forcing Negan to race after her, but gets injured from flying debris. He hears Dog barking and finds Judith, who is beginning to suffer from hypothermia; Negan carries Judith and leads Dog back to the group, despite his injury. Eventually, Daryl's group reaches Alexandria as the storm subsides. Michonne is elated to see Judith and R.J. still alive. A small snowball fight ensues between some of the Alexandrians. In the infirmary, Michonne goes to talk to Negan, who is being tended to his wound; she thanks him for saving Judith. He compliments her on having the guts to cross through the Whisperers' territory. In their camp, Alpha reminds Beta that she'll need to be strong for what comes next and Beta assures her she will be. Per Alpha's request, Beta flogs her arm with a branch to make her stronger, leaving several lashes on her arm, as she used to do to Lydia. At the Hilltop, Ezekiel converses with Judith via radio to catch up and tells her that just because they lost their house doesn't mean they lost their home. They finish talking and Ezekiel exits the room. Suddenly, the radio picks up a faint transmission and another voice comes through asking if anybody is out there. ===== ===== Bailey (voiced by Josh Gad), an elderly St. Bernard/Australian Shepherd mix, lives happily with his owner Ethan (Quaid) and his wife Hannah (Helgenberger), and their 2-year-old granddaughter Clarity June “C.J.” (Emma Volk) and her mother Gloria (Gilpin). Bailey, communicating with the audience via his thoughts, has a fondness for C.J.. Gloria is shown to be an incompetent mother with a hatred for dogs, a distrust of her dead husband Henry's parents (Hannah and Ethan) and an ambition to have a singing career. Soon thereafter, Ethan discovers a big lump in Bailey's stomach, and a veterinarian's diagnosis is cancer. Gloria's suspicious nature leads her to move out with C.J. Eventually, Bailey's condition worsens and Ethan calls the veterinarian to the barn, where they prepare for euthanasia. Ethan holds Bailey lovingly and tells him to take care of C.J. before he is lethally injected. Bailey, now dead, is then seen running through a grassy field towards young C.J. Nine years later, Bailey, who has been reincarnated as a female beagle named Molly, is part of a litter of puppies who are adopted out until only Molly and her favorite brother Rocky are left. She sees a young boy named Trent (Ian Chen) and his family adopting Rocky. She also sees a young girl with him, who she recognizes is C.J., now 11 years old (Abby Ryder Forston). Molly, remembering the promise she made as Bailey to Ethan, runs outside to C.J. C.J., now living in a house with Gloria, takes Molly home with her and hides her from her mother. Gloria eventually sees Molly and gets angry at C.J. for getting a dog behind her back, but C.J. persuades her mother to let her keep the dog given how neglected she feels. With a reluctant glare, Gloria allows her to adopt Molly. Over time, C.J. and Molly grow increasingly close, along with Trent and Rocky. CJ, now a teenager (Prescott), reveals to Trent (Lau) that she wants to drop out of high school and move to New York with her father's insurance settlement to pursue a career in music. C.J. begins to date Shane, a Mr. Sub employee whom Molly distrusts and tries to protect C.J. from him. Shane insists that they attend a party, which gets busted by police for underage drinking. Molly is separated from her and taken to a shelter. Trent retrieves Molly and reunites her with C.J. C.J. is sentenced to community service at a facility that teaches dogs how to detect cancer and Molly teaches herself how to signal she has smelled the scent. While C.J. is busy, Hannah and Ethan visit Gloria's home with a box of Henry's old belongings, wanting to see C.J. However, Gloria, still angry over their discord, closes the door on them, but not before Molly takes a liking to Ethan, and he recognizes her as Bailey and reminds Molly of her promise to protect C.J. Shane ambushes and assaults C.J., prompting Molly to bite him on the leg. Gloria responds nonchalantly to this and reveals that she spent all of the money from Henry's settlement (meant for C.J.) on her greedy wishes, prompting C.J. to angrily leave with Molly. While leaving town, CJ discovers Shane is stalking her, and while trying to avoid him, C.J. forgets to watch the road, and she accidentally crashes into a dumpster, killing Molly. Afraid of getting arrested, Shane promptly flees the scene in a panic. Molly is then shown running through the same grassy field that Bailey was running through when he died. Molly, reincarnated as a male English Mastiff named Big Dog, lives with his new owner, Joe, and is a guard dog at his gas station/convenience store. Although he enjoys his new life, he misses C.J. One day, C.J., now a young adult, visits the store, and Big Dog recognizes and engages with her. After she leaves, he lives the rest of his life missing her, and eventually dies of old age. He is then shown running through the grassy field again. Big Dog, again reincarnated, this time as a Yorkshire Terrier named Max, is at an adoption event in New York City. To avoid being adopted by anyone until he can find C.J., he uses an aggressive, biting persona, until he sees C.J. and chases her to her apartment building. CJ is reluctant to keep Max, but she learns that if Max isn't adopted by the next day, he will be put down. CJ is living with her boyfriend and working as a dog walker while aspiring to a musical career, but can't overcome her stage fright. She adopts Max, who befriends her boyfriend's dog. While C.J. is returning a dog to a client after a walk, Max smells a familiar scent. Leading C.J. on a chase through the hallway, he ends up at the door of an apartment newly rented by Trent and his girlfriend (he also realizes that Rocky has since died). Max, sensing that C.J. and Trent have feelings for each other, intentionally misbehaves, sabotaging C.J.’s relationship with her boyfriend, causing them to break up and her to move out of his apartment. After staying with various friends, Max pulls CJ toward Trent on the street, who offers his guest bedroom for her to stay in. Soon after, Max remembers learning how to diagnose cancer back during Molly's life, and signals C.J. that he smells cancer on Trent. A doctor confirms the diagnosis and Trent begins chemotherapy. His shallow girlfriend leaves him, leaving C.J. as his primary caretaker. Eventually, Trent's doctor informs him that he is cancer-free, and at Trent's urging, C.J. accepts a meeting with Gloria after not having seen her in years. She has warmed up to dogs and is no longer incompetent. During their conversation, she gives C.J. some of the contents that were in Henry's box which Hannah and Ethan brought to her house during Molly's life, which are revealed to be letters that Henry wrote to Gloria while she was pregnant with C.J. These notes inspire C.J. to write more songs and perform them in front of an audience, finally kicking off her musical career. Trent wants to repay C.J. and Max for their help, so he takes them on a road trip to Ethan and Hannah's farm in Michigan, where they reunite for the first time since Gloria stormed out with CJ during Bailey's life. Ethan immediately recognizes Max as Bailey. C.J. is skeptical until Max performs a unique trick with Ethan that only Bailey would know. Ethan tells C.J. that he had asked the dying Bailey to look after her. CJ realizes that Bailey brought her and Trent together as adults and saved Trent's life, leading her to finally understand that Bailey, Molly, Big Dog, and Max are all the same dog. C.J. and Trent embrace their love for each other, and eventually marry and have their first child, a boy. Gloria reconciles with C.J., Hannah, and Ethan. Ethan dies in bed, surrounded by family and with Max at his side. Max ages and dies as well, with C.J. at his side. The movie ends with Bailey running through the grassy field and morphing backward through his previous incarnations, before crossing the Rainbow Bridge and joyfully reuniting with Ethan in Heaven. Bailey narrates that he got to love Ethan forever as a reward for being a good dog throughout all of his lives. ===== ===== Vera and Nikita do not know each other, and the only thing they have in common is the fact that they chose the same place to celebrate their success in their personal lives. Global warming makes the surface uninhabitable and hostile. Earth is dead. But human beings gave life to its greatest invention, Pathos, a mechanical system that protects them, controls their five senses, and gives them a perfect life for a fee. Free thought is not allowed, and only the pay-dreams provided by the system are permissible. But one day, one man dreams with the help of something different: his own mind. In a mainly empty room with no windows and faint lighting, the man (referred to by the system with a user numerical designation) is hooked up to a machine via a tube, apparently a set of cables grafted directly on to his head. He imagines a butterfly with wings of four different patterns and colours on its wings. The system interrupts him, telling him independent cognitive activity is not permitted. On a screen there are frequent advertisements for different instant dreams, experiences which are paid for with credit cards. The man sees the advertisements and impulsively, then desperately, types the number from one of his many cards, and then another, and another, but time after time, his cards are rejected as not recognised by the system, which, as a "precaution", blocks his senses, until touch is all he has left, for one last, vain, try. Disconnected from the network, the tube is removed and the man collapses. ===== Fabienne Dangeville is a very famous French actress, giving an interview about work on her upcoming book. Her daughter, screenwriter Lumir, son-in-law actor Hank and granddaughter Charlotte arrive. Lumir is surprised that the book has already been printed, as she expected to read it first, before being published. Fabienne tells her that she sent her the manuscript before having the book printed. Same night, Lumir reads the book. Next day, Lumir confronts Fabienne about some lines in the book which depict her relationship with her mother as a fairy tale story. Fabienne was very rarely there for Lumir as a child. Lumir also asks why she doesn’t mention Sarah once, and Fabienne simply says it’s her book. Later, Luc, Fabienne's manager tells Lumir that Fabienne is doing her current film because it stars Manon Lenoir, the next big actress who reminds everyone of Sarah. It’s called Memories of My Mother. Lumir goes to the film set, acting as Fabienne’s assistant, and watches the film shoot. It’s a sci-fi movie where a mother is dying and goes to live in space, where she stops aging. She returns to Earth in varying years to visit her daughter, who is older and older with each visit while she doesn’t age. Fabienne plays the daughter in her seventies. During a read through, the room seems very impressed with Manon, but Fabienne seems annoyed and says she thinks Manon is putting a lot on. Luc tells Fabienne that he plans to retire and live with his son’s family. Fabienne is surprised to know that Luc had so many grandchildren. Lumir asks him why he is leaving, and he says that Fabienne didn’t mention him even once in her memoir as if he never existed. He tells Lumir thar she can manage Fabienne as they would make a good team. Pierre - Lumir’s father and Fabienne’s ex-husband - surprises everyone by arriving at the house, and Lumir quickly surmises he wants money, which he thinks he deserves for Fabienne publishing a book about him. Lumir tells him that the book mentions him, dead. Fabienne’s current husband, Jacques, makes dinner for the whole family, including Pierre. When Pierre congratulates Hank on his acting successes, Fabienne downplays Hank’s TV career. Lumir then brings up how Fabienne stole the award winning role from Sarah by sleeping with the director and that Sarah’s suicide was Fabienne’s fault. Fabienne says that it was an accident. Lumir leaves in tears. Hank, who had quit drinking, begins drinking wine. The next day, while shooting scenes with Manon, Fabienne keeps saying she’s being distracted by things like cell phones ringing and she keeps messing up. During a later take, she falls down, but then pulls out a great performance. Fabienne wants Luc back, but doesn’t know what to do. Lumir tells her to apologize, and Fabienne says that she has never apologized and asks Lumir to write an apology for her. Later, the family has dinner with Luc and his family, and Fabienne tells Luc that Lumir wants her back instead of apologizing. Back on the set, Fabienne panics and leaves saying she’s quitting acting and that Manon is mocking her. Lumir asks her to just admit Manon is a better actress and to quit running away. Fabienne returns to the set. She tells Lumir that she sees Sarah sometimes, and thinks she would be better at acting if Sarah was watching her. She offers Manon a compliment and finishes the film. Lumir compliments her on the scene, and later Manon stops by to compliment her. Fabienne notes that it was the kind of thing she would have done with Sarah, who Manon reminds her of. She ends up giving Manon Sarah’s favorite dress, which fits her perfectly. Manon asks Fabienne what Sarah was like, and she tells her how talented she was. Fabienne admits to Lumir that she was jealous of Sarah. Lumir asks her why that wasn’t in her book, and Fabienne says maybe she will include it in the second edition. Lumir hugs her mother, cries and tells her she must truly have magical powers because she’s on the verge of forgiving her. Fabienne then suddenly gets upset that she should have played the scene with Manon like this and what a waste it is to not use the emotions in the scene. Charlotte goes to Fabienne and tells her that her number one wish is that she wants to be an actress someday. She tells Fabienne she wants her to go into space so that she can watch her become an actress, which touches her. Charlotte then goes back to Lumir, and it’s revealed it’s a line that Lumir wrote for her. Charlotte asks if it’s real or not, and Lumir simply smiles. Luc returns to work, where Fabienne has Charlotte present him with a homemade medal and is nice to him. She asks him to have a reshoot scheduled for Memories of My Mother, since she thinks she can do the scene better now. Lumir asks Luc if he really ever intended to leave, but he doesn’t say. The family heads out together, and Fabienne notes that she loves Parisian winters. ===== J*ames B*ond takes on Lacertus Alligator, head of the evil organization TOOTH (The Organization Organized to Hate). Mahesh, on the other hand, hails from a royal zamindar family. For Mahesh, his sister Manonmani's (Sukanya) words are precious. When the families agree to the marriage, the process gets murky as Arivudainambi is against a big wedding, whereas Manonmani wants her brother's marriage to be a grandiose event. Arivudainambi suggests the wedding to happen in a temple with very minimal guests, thereby minimizing food expenses. However, Manonmani wants the wedding to happen in a grand manner in a big convention hall with all their relatives invited along with a big cuisine. Manonmani plans to get Mahesh married to someone else, for which Mahesh opposes and leaves from home. Now, both families enter into discussion again and come into a better understanding. It is revealed that Manonmani raised Mahesh following their parents early death and got separated from her husband when her in-laws preferred her not to care for her brother much. Similarly, Arivudainambi's father was a rich textile businessman who was well known for philanthropy, but he lost all money due to his business rivals and passed away penniless. This made Arivudainambi care much for money, thereby avoiding unnecessary expenses. Mahesh returns to meet Arivudainambi, and his wedding is arranged with Aathira in a simple way. Manonmani understands Mahesh's love for Aathira and approves the wedding; however, her ego does not let her go and attend the wedding. But the couple decides to wait until she comes to the wedding. Manonmani realizes Aathira's love towards her and gives up her ego. In the present, time has passed since Seabrook and Zombietown settled their differences. Zed plans to ask Addison to Prawn, Seabrook's version of prom, while Addison works to lead her team of zombie and human cheerleaders against a team of more experienced, all human cheerleaders ("We Got This"). Bucky announces he will be running for class president and, as a result, will be passing the cheer captaincy onto someone else, which both Addison and his sidekicks, the Aceys, show interest in. When the bus carrying the cheerleaders crashes into the nearby forbidden forest; Addison and the cheer team see the werewolves. When they get back to Seabrook, the residents of the town become wary, and the mayor reinstates the anti-monster laws. As part of these anti- monster laws, zombies are banned from Prawn, so Zed decides to run for class president in order to go to Prawn with Addison. Meanwhile, the local werewolves' moonstone necklaces which give them werewolf abilities are losing their power, so they need to find the moonstone in order to recharge their necklaces. Prophecy states that a girl with white hair called the Great Alpha will show them where this moonstone is. Because Addison has white hair, some of them begin to suspect she is the Great Alpha, so they enroll at Seabrook High to get closer to her ("We Own the Night"). Zed attempts to convince them to vote for him by offering them advice on how to assimilate into Seabrook, which they ignore because they value embracing their werewolf traits over blending in. ("Like the Zombies Do"). At cheer practice, Addison convinces the werewolves to join in; as Zed and Eliza walk in, they suspect that Wyatt, one of the werewolves, likes Addison, which makes Zed jealous and starts a fight between him and Addison ("Gotta Find Where I Belong"). The werewolves eventually bring Addison to their den, where they tell her the prophecy, and give her a fully charged moonstone necklace, which they have saved for the Great Alpha ("Call to the Wild"). If she puts it on and is truly a werewolf, she will transform into one. The werewolves agree to give her one day to decide. They feel an explosion, and it is said that they are destroying the power plant which created the zombies. If the power plant gets destroyed, it will collapse and destroy the moonstone, which is found to be under it, along with it. The next day, Addison shows Zed the necklace, and Zed takes it when she is not looking. Zed goes to his presidential debate against Bucky and wins over the humans, but when the Z-band shorts out due to Addison's moonstone, Zed becomes a full zombie and everyone runs away screaming, which causes Zed to lose the election ("I'm Winning"). Meanwhile, the werewolves head to Seabrook Power, where the alarm immediately goes off and the Zombie Patrol shows up. Addison and Bree also hear the alarm from school and realize that they need to help the werewolves. The werewolves get arrested at the demolition site. Addison arrives with the cheerleaders and zombies, who get the adults to agree not to destroy the building ("Flesh & Bone"). They all go outside to celebrate, and Zed reveals to Addison that he took the necklace from her. She gets mad at him and puts on the necklace, but finds out that she's not a werewolf. The device controlling the demolition shorts out and causes the whole building to be destroyed. Prawn night arrives and Zed, as well as the rest of the zombies and werewolves, show up to crash Prawn. Everyone dances and Zed and Addison make up; however, the ground starts shaking and splits in half with a blue glow from the hole ("Someday (Reprise)"). The werewolves realize that the moonstone is not destroyed and go in the hole to find it; the humans and zombies follow to help. They find the moonstone, but a huge boulder blocks their exit. Zed removes his Z-band and uses his zombie strength to lift the boulder and allows the others to bring the moonstone out safely. They all go back to Prawn and sing and dance and have fun, with Zed and Addison having their first kiss ("One for All"). Later, a blue glowing rock falls from the sky at night. This causes Addison's alarm clock to briefly short out; later, after waking up, her hair glows bright blue for a short moment. ===== Feared arms dealer Ezekiel Mannings has finally been captured after years of destructive underworld activity. The Bloods decide to take the gold for themselves and bury it so they can retrieve it later. However, in the ensuing Vietnamese counter-attack, Norman is killed and the Bloods cannot locate the buried gold after a napalm strike obliterates all of the identifying landmarks. In the present day, Paul, Otis, Eddie and Melvin meet up in Ho Chi Minh City. A recent landslide had uncovered the tail of the crashed plane, and with this new information they plan to find the gold and Norman's body. Otis reunites with his old Vietnamese girlfriend Tiên, who reveals that he is the father of her grown child. Tiên introduces the Bloods to Desroche, a French businessman who agrees to help the Bloods smuggle the gold out of Vietnam once they retrieve it. Soon thereafter, Paul's son David joins the mission. Vinh, a tour guide hired by the Bloods, leads the group out into the countryside, where a confrontation with a local merchant forces Paul to admit that he has post- traumatic stress disorder. At a hotel bar, David meets Hedy, the founder of LAMB, an organization dedicated to clearing landmines. The next day, Vinh drops off the group and tells them he will pick them up in a few days. During their first night, Paul confiscates a pistol Otis had been secretly given by Tiên and becomes suspicious of his motives. Eventually, the Bloods find the gold bars scattered across the side of a hill. They also find Norman's remains and pray over them. Eddie reveals that his excessive spending has rendered him broke, but reminds the Bloods of Norman's original plan to give the gold to their black brethren in the United States. On the hike out, Eddie steps on a landmine and is killed. In the chaos, David also steps on a mine but does not trigger it, just as Hedy and two other volunteers from LAMB, Simon and Seppo, show up. Paul and the others manage to pull David off the landmine safely. Paul then holds the three outsiders hostage with Otis's gun, paranoid that they will report them to the authorities. During the night Seppo escapes while David and the others forcibly take the gun from Paul. When the Bloods meet Vinh at the agreed rendezvous spot, a group of gunmen show up demanding the gold in exchange for Seppo, whom they have captured. A shootout results in David being shot in the leg and Seppo being killed by a landmine while trying to escape. All of the gunmen are killed by the Bloods, except for one, who flees. Assuming that Desroche has crossed them, Vinh suggests retreating to a nearby abandoned temple to defend themselves from reinforcements. Unwilling to trust Vinh, Paul takes his share of the gold and heads out into the jungle alone. The remaining Bloods offer Vinh, Hedy and Simon a share of the remaining gold for their trouble. As he rages to himself, Paul has a vision of Norman who reminds him that he was the one who had killed him, having shot him by accident during the firefight, and that he should let go of his guilt. Desroche's men find Paul and kill him. At the temple, Desroche and the gunmen arrive. After confronting the Frenchman, now wearing Paul's MAGA hat, Otis, Melvin and Vinh start shooting, killing all of Desroche's men. Desroche wounds Otis and tries to finish him off with a hand grenade, but Melvin sacrifices himself by leaping on top of it. Desroche prepares to execute Otis, but David shoots and kills him with Otis's gun. Vinh helps the surviving Bloods share out the gold. Melvin's widow receives his share, and Eddie's goes to a Black Lives Matter organization. Hedy and Simon donate their shares to LAMB in Seppo's name. As they set off, the Coast Guard alerts them that their planned destination, which is rich with fish, is in an exclusion zone. Unbeknownst to the others, Gerard takes them into the zone anyway; he needs a large haul of fish on this outing to keep the ship. As they travel through the zone, the ship runs into an unknown, shoal-like object which stops the boat. Omid discovers strange breaches in the hull which exude a blue-green slime. The crew suspects barnacles, and as Siobhan possesses the only diving gear onboard, Gerard sends her armed with a knife to cut the boat free. Underwater, she discovers the tentacles of an enormous bio-luminescent organism far below adhering to the boat. Thinking it may be a newly-discovered form of giant squid, the crew attempt to capture it with their net, but the creature proves too heavy. While releasing the net, Johnny cuts his hand on the rope, which is covered in the same slime. The crew sees another ship on the horizon, and Gerard, Johnny, and Siobhan row to it to seek help. Once onboard they find the entire crew dead from suicide inside the cabin, with one of the men appearing to have had his eyes scooped out. Gerard instructs the others not to speak of this discovery, calling it "sea fever" and insisting the other crew merely went mad. Upon their return to their own ship, they discover that the creature has released them. Lowering their nets, they make large catch of fish, and the crew is in high spirits. That night, Johnny begins to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior, including wanting to go for a swim. Suspecting a fever, Siobhan performs a medical diagnosis on him and discovers movement in his retinas. As he is washing his face, Johnny suddenly goes blind and his eyes burst, releasing minuscule organisms that slither down the drain and enter the ship's water system. The crew rushes to save Sudi, who is taking a shower. Sudi suffers numerous cuts over his body as the waterborne creatures bite him, and Johnny dies from his injuries. Checking their water filtration system the crew find that their entire water supply has been contaminated by the small creatures, who Siobhan realizes are larvae of the larger creature. Gerard pilots the ship towards home as quickly as possible. Disinfectant and UV light both fail to kill the larvae in the ship's water. As a last ditch effort, Siobhan and Omid electrocute the trawler using the ship's arc welder, apparently sterilizing the boat's water supply and preventing further infection. However, Siobhan insists that when they arrive at port, they self-quarantine on the trawler for a further 36 hours before returning to shore: if any of them has already been infected, they risk introducing the infection to the public. When Sudi dies from the infection, and the crew refuses to quarantine, Siobhan disables the trawler by entangling the propeller. The crew checks their eyes for the parasites. Siobhan, Omid, Freya, and Ciara show no signs of infection, but Gerard is clearly infected, and after a heartfelt goodbye Freya mercy kills him by slicing his throat. Ciara goes insane and attacks Siobhan, only to fall to her death. As Ciara dies, a parasite emerges from her eye, revealing her to have been infected. Now with only Freya, Siobhan, and Omid remaining, Freya decides to take the rowboat and try to make it to shore to double their chances of being found. Siobhan and Omid discover that one of the larvae in the ship's water tank survived and has become a larger creature, which eats through the ship's hull to return to the ocean. The trawler begins to sink. Siobhan and Omid use alcohol to ignite a fire on the Niamh Cinn Óir and then abandon it on an inflatable boat. Omid, who cannot swim, falls overboard, and as he thrashes he is seized by the adult creature. Siobhan rescues him, but cuts her bare hand on the creature's tendril, becoming infected. As a rescue helicopter, alerted by the fire, approaches, Siobhan dives into the water, swimming down towards the bioluminescent creature. ===== Quest of the Space Beagle is a collection of mini-games about the player finding and returning to Earth after a failed trip to Jupiter in the previous game. ===== The story is narrated by Vinci da (Rudranil Ghosh) who learned the art of making prosthetics from his father. Inspired by a potent concoction of wine and Wi-Fi, she ends up entering a contest to "Win an Inn" overlooking New Zealand's countryside and wins the inn, supposedly a beautiful one. Thousands of airline miles later, she discovers The Bellbird Valley Farm boasts a crumbling facade, a floorboard-treading goat, a meddling neighbor who covets the space, and a 1960s Landrover (which starts the first time). Gabriela is visited by Charlotte, the owner of the town's only B&B;, who reveals that the previous owner's great-grandson entered the house in the "Win an Inn" contest to get rid of it. Gabriela considers carrying out an eco- renovation to restore the Inn, and the plot revolves around tension, friendship and courtship with the nearby town's only restoration expert, Jake Taylor, a bereaved Kiwi contractor and chief volunteer firefighter. With Gabriela and Jake completing the project as a 50-50 partnership, the story takes an interesting turn as once the final fixtures are hung, she's hesitant to leave him, the inn, and the inviting community that nurtured her creative side. Dean shows up unexpectedly from the US after Charlotte pretends to be Gabriela, and texts him using Gabriela's phone. An attractive financial offer to buy the Inn is concocted by Dean with a Melbourne investment company. This turn of events shocks Charlotte who initially planned all this so she could buy the Bellbird Valley Farm herself, thinking that Dean's sudden appearance would push Gabriela to sell the farm and return to her city life. However, after a fire at Charlotte's B&B; and Jake's near-death experience, Gabriela decides to forsake her San Francisco life and remain in the community, running the Inn with Jake to recoup their investment. Romance is - predictably - in the air. The movie ends with a drone-shot sequence over the restored property, panning out to reveal no farm - just a wooded landscape and the ocean. ===== ===== A kitten lives in the garbage cans behind a building in San Francisco's Mission District. He has a romantic relationship with Angel Aasirvatham, a physiotherapist who comically refuses to marry any groom at the last minute due to their love. He has a running feud with a rival don named Daniel. One night, Daniel attacks Michael and his close friend Kathir, who is the coach of the Tamil Nadu women's football team. Kathir suffers spinal injuries during the attack, due to which he is paralyzed for a year. To allow the women's football team to take part in the upcoming National Championship in Delhi, Kathir requests to the Tamil Nadu Football Federation to replace him with his former teammate named "Bigil", who is none other than Michael. The story then shifts to Michael's past as a football player. Seven years earlier, Michael was an aspiring footballer and contributed to victories for the Tamil Nadu football team along with Kathir. His father was Rayappan, a don who had a feud with a rival don named Alex, who was Daniel's father. Rayappan encouraged his son's passion for football as he did not want him to end up as a criminal like him. When Michael was unable to make it to the Indian football team due to Rayappan's criminal record, Rayappan personally took up the matter with the All India Football Federation president J. K. Sharma and forcefully ensured Sharma to include Michael and Kathir in the Indian team probable list. But despite Rayappan's efforts, Michael's football career was cut short as he witnessed Rayappan getting stabbed to death by Alex and Daniel, just when he was about to leave for Delhi to attend the selection trial for the Indian football team. Michael killed Alex in front of Daniel, taking revenge for Rayappan's death, and stayed back in Chennai to become the new leader of Rayappan's gang. In the present day, Michael accepts Kathir's request to coach the women's football team and leaves for Delhi with the team, with Angel also accompanying them as team physiotherapist. However, due to his criminal background, the girls refuse to cooperate with him, even blaming him for the team's opening loss to Manipur in the National Championship and requesting the Federation to have him removed. Dejected, Michael gives his resignation to Sharma, but he soon realises that Sharma is targeting him in revenge for the humiliation that he had faced at the hands of Rayappan to allow him into the Indian football team. Sharma sends armed assailants to attack Michael; however, Michael subdues the assailants and withdraws his resignation. He convinces the girls to support him and starts training them hard with the sole focus of winning the Championship. He even manages to bring back two former key players to boost the team's strength: Gayathri, a Brahmin girl who had to quit playing football after she was married to a conservative family; and Anitha, who went into depression and refused to leave her room after a man threw acid on her face as she spurned his advances. Despite Sharma trying to rig the team's next match against Haryana so that they will be eliminated and sent home, they manage to beat Haryana and win all their remaining matches, eventually qualifying for the Final at Chennai, where they are to play Manipur again. On the eve of the Final, one of the team's players, Vembu, is kidnapped and forcefully injected with cocaine by Daniel, who is hired by Sharma in order to sabotage the team's chances of winning the Championship. Though she recovers, she is unable to play in the final as she would fail the dope test. The team's captain, Thendral, is also kidnapped by Daniel, who attempts to forcefully inject cocaine on her as well; however, Michael manages to rescue her. Michael proceeds to kill Daniel once and for all, but when he sees Daniel's young son, he changes his mind and spares Daniel, as he does not want the young boy's future to end up like him by seeing his father die. The next day, Tamil Nadu plays the Final against Manipur without Vembu. The match turns out to be a thriller with Tamil Nadu winning the Championship through a penalty shootout. Michael and the team dedicate their success to Kathir, who is watching the match from the dugout in a wheelchair. During the credits, Michael gets Sharma framed for drug possession, leading to Sharma's arrest in Malaysia, where he is on a holiday. A few months later, Michael, no longer a rowdy, takes up football coaching for children, with one of his wards being the son of Daniel, who has made peace with Michael. ===== In 1976, a young Daphne "Daffy" Ford escapes an arranged marriage in her homeland on the Tiwi Islands. Her boyfriend, Ned, proposes to her. Unbeknownst to Lauren, Ned has recently quit his job, also as a lawyer, and asks Lauren for a quick wedding. Lauren's workaholic boss, Ms. Hampton, gives Lauren 10 days off for the ceremony and honeymoon. Lauren decides to use the time to marry in her hometown of Darwin. After arriving in Darwin, Lauren discovers that her mother has abandoned her father, Trevor, and that she is nowhere to be found. Lauren decides that she cannot marry without her mother present, and Ned takes her on a road trip to find her. Meanwhile, Lauren calls Ms. Hampton to come to Darwin and help plan the wedding in her absence. Lauren and Ned follow traces left by Daffy but narrowly miss her at every turn. Lauren explains to Ned that her mother had always been evasive in talking about her past and has never taught her the Tiwi language; Lauren expresses shame and embarrassment in not knowing anything about her own heritage and culture. After meeting up with her aunt and talking to her, Lauren realizes that her mother has returned to the Tiwi Islands. While Ms. Hampton plans the wedding with Lauren's friends, she talks to Trevor, who has been depressed since Daffy has left him. He discusses his marriage with Ms. Hampton, and she in turn confides her former engagement to a man many years before. After the breakdown of that relationship, she has focused mostly on her work. On their way to the Tiwi Islands, Lauren discovers that Ned had quit his job without telling her. This leads to an argument where they both claim that they are not being listened to. Lauren cancels the wedding and continues to the Tiwi Islands alone. There, Lauren meets her extended family for the first time and is greeted with warmth. She finds her mother outside of a church and witnesses Daffy reuniting and reconciling with her parents; Lauren, in turn, meets her grandparents for the first time. Later, she informs Daffy of her engagement, but is afraid that she will regret her marriage just as her mother did. Conversely, Daffy tells her that she never regretted her marriage but regrets being estranged from her family. She tells Lauren that Ned is a good man and encourages her to marry him. Lauren calls Ned while he is at the airport; he initially ignores her calls, but Ms. Hampton appears and forces him to answer his phone. He and Lauren reconcile and she tells him that they must marry on the Tiwi Islands. Ned persuades Ms. Hampton to skip a day at work and come to the wedding, as he is grateful for her continuous support of Lauren and Trevor. Ned rushes back to Trevor's house and encourages him to come to his daughter's wedding, despite his dishevelled state. Running late to the wedding, the two take the speedboat (the same one Daffy escaped on many years earlier) to the Tiwi Islands. Lauren and Ned reunite and are happily married in front of their family and friends; Ned tells Lauren that he intends to make a career change and become a chef. Trevor and Daffy reconcile and affirm their love for one another. ===== ===== ===== Stronger, Faster, and More Beautiful is composed of six interrelated stories, each set farther into the future than the last, and covering in all a time period of perhaps 150 years. The novel begins “a few years from now” with Evan and Julia Weary, semi-identical twins facing a dramatic choice about their own survival. It continues with Ludmilla, a girl who must conceal the extent to which her body has been rebuilt as prejudice against altered humans is on the rise. Soon we meet Alexios, a boy whose genetic modifications at the embryo stage were supposed to give him super-human intelligence and open the door to a happy and successful life. Instead, his body was born deformed and his extreme intelligence has twisted in upon itself so that he spends his mental energy creating anagrams and solving useless puzzles about the world around him. Alexios has been modified with dolphin skin cells to live primarily underwater, where he oversees a flock of manatees who are growing within them human organs for transplant. Everywhere in the world, such advances are changing the face of humanity. “As genetic manipulation accelerates beyond cosmetic enhancements and lifesaving surgeries, animal and plant genes are modified, then used to modify human beings. Limbs can be added and the mortally ill frozen until their ailments are curable. For-profit enterprises, in the U.S. especially, compete in a laissez-faire free-for-all,” according to Kirkus Reviews. Eventually we meet Luck and Starlock, non-modified humans (known as “Protos”) who are kept on a reservation in the Colorado mountains. Humans outside their reservation have been so altered that they are, in many cases, nearly unrecognizable. When a diseases strikes these “modern” humans, the Protos must venture off the reservation and take up the reins of humanity. ===== In the 31st century, Mano, Tharok and Persuader of the Fatal Five attack the Legion of Super-Heroes' headquarters for their time sphere. Star Boy, Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5 try to keep them back but fail. Just as the villains activate the sphere, Star Boy leaps at them and is taken along. Arriving in the 21st century above Earth, Star Boy triggers a boobytrap Brainiac 5 programmed, trapping the villains inside the sphere in a stasis field. Star Boy comes down in Gotham City while the sphere ends up in Metropolis. Star Boy discovers his supply of medicine, needed to stabilize his mind, was destroyed in his rough landing. As his medicine doesn't exist yet, Star Boy's increasingly erratic behavior gets him apprehended by Batman and sent to Arkham. The stasis-locked time machine is picked up by Superman and brought to the Justice League's headquarters for analysis. Ten months later, Jessica Cruz is struggling with the trauma of her near-death by a murderer who killed her friends, making her afraid to leave her apartment. Adding to her anxiety is that a Green Lantern ring chose her and that Wonder Woman keeps trying to recruit her into the Justice League. In Gotham, Miss Martian is trying to prove herself to Batman for membership in the League, but her inexperience works against her good intentions. While trying to unlock the secret of the strange sphere, Mister Terrific brings down the stasis field, freeing its occupants. Superman and Mister Terrific fight them, but Superman is wounded by Persuader's axe and the villains escape. Star Boy's memory is jogged by a news report of the fight, and he breaks out of Arkham. The Justice League members compare notes about these mysterious assailants and discover they are time travelers; and from one of Star Boy's ravings, Batman deduces that they are after Jessica. When the three villains attack Jessica, Star Boy comes to her rescue, followed by Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Mister Terrific, and Miss Martian, who force them into flight after a hard struggle. In the aftermath, Star Boy and Jessica form a close friendship. To find out more about their guest from the future, Batman instructs Miss Martian to telepathically link their and Jessica's minds with Star Boy's memories, thus learning about the Legion. They witness a battle between the Legion-—Chameleon, Dawnstar, Tyroc, Mon-El, Shadow Lass, and, later Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, and Star Boy-—and the Fatal Five, which ended with the capture of Mano's lover Emerald Empress and Validus; as there was no prison that could hold them in the 31st century, the Legion took them to Oa in the past. Upon their awakening, the League receives an ultimatum from Mano: Surrender Jessica or all American cities will be destroyed by bombs created by Tharok. The first bombings start in Metropolis, forcing the Justice League to move out. Left behind with Star Boy in the Watchtower, Jessica is contacted by Tharok through her ring, forcing her to surrender herself to the Five and enable them entry to Oa's prison cells. Despite interference by Kilowog and Salaak, Emerald Empress and Validus are freed, and when Jessica fights back, Persuader cleaves her ring in two. Afterwards, Emerald Empress has her Emerald Eye of Ekron steal all the energy of the Central Power Battery, and the Five return to Earth to recover the time sphere. In the meantime, Star Boy discovers Jessica's absence and informs the League. The heroes proceed to the time machine's location, a secret US military base, where the Fatal Five force them into battle. Emerald Empress subdues the Justice League and then initiates her master plan to use the Lantern's power to destroy Earth's sun, wipe out humanity, and thus prevent the formation of the Legion in their time. On Oa, Jessica recovers her faith and determination, and by reciting her oath, she reassembles her power ring. Brought back to her apartment by the ring, Jessica flies to the base and prevents the Fatal Five from escaping back to their own era by bringing the whole base down upon them, killing the supervillains. Superman, Jessica and Star Boy race after the Eye, but are too late to prevent it from plunging into the sun. As the star cracks apart, Star Boy sacrifices himself by lowering himself into the sun's core and using his powers to reverse the fractioning. In the final scene as the Justice League members commemorate Star Boy's heroism, they are joined by the Legion who have come from the future to honor their fallen comrade. Batman also grants Miss Martian admission into the League for her bravery. ===== ===== =====
