Uncle Balance has a fierce horse.

Living on ridgetop, precipitous hang
Between two worlds, left and right
Uncle lets horse to pasture.
Kicking from gate; dun hoof and ribs revealed.
Dashing down down slope, up up
Through quick brush, thick magnolia
Trees snapping flanks:
Uncle approves.

Grin weary end of day,
Open thin door on a slip barn:
Quiver horse sidling in,
Eyes in head full of sun, nostrils wet,
Scowl and tapping hoof,
Balance balance.

Uncle Balance has a fierce horse.
